  1. You know Freddy?
  2. So in the relay delay it's OFF, 1-9. When I turn it off the repeater doesn't respond at all. And when I set it to 1 through 9 there isn't much of a difference. Does anyone know the timing of the different levels, because it's certainly not seconds.
  3. Temp mounting And I got my call sign on the radio
  4. Never mind... I guess I had the screen scrolled down and couldn't see the options at the top. I found it. I haven't wrote it to the radio yet though.
  5. Anybody been able to do this with the XS20G Plus?
  6. Wife is a couple states away with the grand children. She won't know for a while.
  7. This is the what the program looks like
  8. Plus it looks like I'll have some extra time. I am painting cabinets and I'll run out of paint before my supplier will be able to mix up a new batch for me. So after this round I am free to roam about the airplane.
  9. Not exactly. Right now I'm still thinking temporary. Might take a longer board and put another shorter on an angle to mount the radio on and slip the long board under the armrest between the seats. Don't really want to drill any holes into the truck yet. It's only 17 years old ya know. Glad I got the programming cable. I think it'll be a lot easier to put the info into the machine, especially naming repeater channels. The program works in the computer. I haven't interfaced with the radio yet. I think I have to put the driver for the cord into my computer before I plug anything in. I've already got the programming software setup and ready to write to the radio as soon as I know it works. I know, read first to make sure it's working right.
  10. I don't know what happened. It snuck out of it's box and it's hiding in my truck
  11. If I have to suffer... you have to suffer....
  12. It's here.... Now all I have to do is wait until after work
  13. I didn't think about GMRS in the 60s. I was pushed into this life in '62
  14. Ya, I know that. Wasn't sure if it would be advantageous to have it. And if I did need/want it I didn't want to have to wait for it to arrive after I already had the radio. Can't hurt to have it.
  15. So did you ever return his money?

    GRMS Needed?

Not a problem at all. Honesty is the best policy as long as you don't really go overboard.
  17. I got the programming cable because I wasn't sure how easy or hard it would be to program.
  18. Glad to hear good things about it. Only so much research you can do online and by youtube. Sounds like I should be pleased with my purchase.
  19. Yes it is. I looked around at the 50 watters and if I was going to get one it would have been the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus. But for my first foray into the higher power radio I decided that I didn't want to spend $400 and $200 was a bit more inline with throwing away some money to have some fun. On top of it I might just get another and throw it in the house for the little woman to keep tabs on me
  20. You are in perfect land if I recall. Wide open at the top of a hill in barren county. I on the other hand live in the land of trees and hills. I live near a river so I am in a low location. At about 1/2 mile or so you can get static and crackles because of all the different obstacles in the path of the signal. I am talking about 5 watt HTs.
  21. Ordered a Wouxun KG-XS20G Plus last week and it should be coming in on Monday. Oh how exciting. Another new toy to play with and suck up my time Since I have a bunch of TD-H3s I decided to step up a bit and get something for my truck that would be more of a permanent fixture for me. So anything anyone has to say as to tips or advice go for it. I'll be running a Midland MXTA26 antenna on the system and not sure if I'll be permanently mounting this or just a semi permanent setup. Sounds like at the beginning I'll just be hooking the power into one of the lighter sockets in the truck. If it provides enough current I'll keep it that way for a bit.
  22. I hear that. We've had a few storms that didn't necessarily take down the cell systems but took out the power. Which can limit your personal options for communication.
  23. Because I wanted a birthday gift that wasn't related to my business. All my stuff is generally geared towards the woodworking business I have and this time around I decided I didn't want a new tool. That I wanted a new toy. On top of it, it's SHTF preparedness for me and my family. I got the license because the Ef Sea Seas demanded that I have their permission paperwork to transmit into the open ether that they so happily decided was their property instead of just the nature of things. And I figured it's only $35 for 10 years and no test so who cares. The repeater owners want you to be licensed so before I could ask permission I needed the coveted call sign assigned to me from the powers above. Generally I like playing radio. I did when I was much younger and now the prices of worthwhile radios is squat. When I was a kid some 50 years ago I remember a walkie talkie would cost $30-50 and you'd be lucky to get 100 yards out of it. Now 50 years later that same $35 gets you a pretty descent radio that can transmit 1/3 mile easily, to 1-5 miles or better depending on conditions. I did it for funz
  24. Hard to say unless you can look at the whole history of the introduction of these frequencies. Usually the govt is way behind on making rules. They are usually reactive. When something goes amiss they make up a new rule/regulation/law to said offense. When they opened the GMRS frequencies was it their intention to make it so people/families to be able to communicate farther than 1000 ft? And because of the new capabilities to the radios the manufacturers came out with new products that the Ef Sea Seas didn't have rules for? I don't know. But that is how innovation usually happens. The innovators are far ahead of the rulez makers and things get going before they can respond.
