TD-H3 one of a new pair won't hit repeater. Prior pair both do
LeoG replied to WSAR431's question in Technical Discussion
I got mine from Amazon and I put up a review that said one of them was bad. After a couple days I contacted Tidradio from their website. That night I got a response from the Amazon seller and after a few messages they said they were sending another radio. What I got was a whole kit, just one radio. So now I have an extra battery, antenna and charger. They didn't ask for the other radio back. Eventually I'll try to dissect it and see if I can find an issue with it. -

I think they got popular because of Notarubicon (plug) and they couldn't keep up with the demand and making money vs a quality product always leads to less quality. -
The Future of Linked Repeaters??? Must Watch!
LeoG replied to marcspaz's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
Nothing is going to change until it's hit by a lawsuit. At that point it should be a push to get through. I'm listening to a repeater in my area and they are talking about OSHA being defunct and now it's just a small town in Massachusetts. But I'm not finding it. -
TD-H3 one of a new pair won't hit repeater. Prior pair both do
LeoG replied to WSAR431's question in Technical Discussion
I had one replaced because of nearly non existent power output. I could get about 300 yrds on simplex and it started to get bad while my other one could communicate with me for the whole walk to the park. I complained and got it replaced. I have about 10 of the H3s and every one of them is different in some manner. Transmit power, receive sensitivity, desense sensitivity etc. Since I was getting them for a bunch of family members I went and picked the best 4 to keep and then passed the rest out. All of them are close, but not the same. -
Just remember... you made me do this... I guess it's not thud but splash.

The Future of Linked Repeaters??? Must Watch!

That is why the Chevron decision was struck down. I think a lot of changes will be happening because of that change. It should slow things down considerably because congress needs to get involved with anything they call a regulation/rule that is treated as law. -

The problem with bland language is it is broad in scope. Which means it can be interpreted many ways. That is exactly what rules and regulations (and laws) can't be. I realize they have to cover a lot of different situations and that makes it extremely difficult to devise rules that are fair. But the govt will always take advantage of those "loopholes" and use it the way they want and not how it seemed to be intended. It really is a tough position. No matter how you write them someone isn't going to agree. -
Well I don't know Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh thud.

Stretches between Syracuse and Niagra Falls. 3 repeaters if I remember correctly. I'd show you on the map but they've been removed.

It's almost like they have a rule for everything and anything so they can go after you any time they want. It's nearly impossible to comply with all the rules/regulations/fake laws they come up with. Some of them contradict another so they can pick and choose the side they want to use against you. I try to follow the rules, but sometimes it's literately impossible to follow one while not breaking another. And it's likely designed that way or made up by people who's left hand doesn't know what their right is doing. -
Seems as though they don't really want this information to get out. The "club president" that was interviewed really wasn't the guy to speak to. They had permission to use the system but had no control over it. The "custodian" is the guy that needs to be interviewed to find out what is really going on. I have only myself to blame. The system was fine until I went up to visit my grandchildren and used the repeater. Unbeknownst to me it was linked. But after I used it was when all this seemed to go down. Ya, I'm kidding.

It was from Amazon but I ended up talking directly to the company via Amazon message. I'm betting they came from chyna because it took nearly 2 weeks for them to get here after they said they were sent.

How many MURZ farz in the woods?
LeoG replied to GreggInFL's topic in Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS)
You did what you were asked. It would have been nice to see CB vs GMRS because both of them are about the same wattage and vastly different frequencies and tech, AM vs FM -
Always good to get the problem solved. I had a bad TD-H3 radio. I could get about 1/6th mile out of it and it wouldn't reach the other radio but I could hear it perfectly. When I finally got a power/SWR meter the power output from that radio was zero. Didn't even register a couple of mW's. I don't understand how it transmitted in the first place but I tried and tried to get it to register an output and never got it to do it. Swapped out to good radios and they always showed power out. Got the company to replace it without issue.

That's a really good answer. Wish you had tried the GMRS on 5 watts to see how an HT might have worked. -
The Future of Linked Repeaters??? Must Watch!

They've had free reign over us for 40 years because of that bad decision in '84. I think even though the decision was unconstitutional it would have been best for the people who knew better to make the decisions instead of a court that really didn't have the knowledge/experience to make those decisions. Unfortunately we are talking about bureaucrats who love power and would do anything to have more and more. And herein lies the problem with giving agencies power like that which they aren't authorized to have. They make decisions that give them more power and continue to do so and then make rules/regulations with the power of law behind them without any congressional oversight or even input. The courts got lazy and either didn't want to do their jobs or outright refused to do the job and deferred all authority to power hungry bureaucrats that only had their own interests in hand. This took way too long to get rid of. But at least now we are on our way to slowing new things way down because of overloaded courts. And we won't have bureaucrats making decisions that give them power over the people to expand the govt to give themselves more power. Yes, I'm one of those. -
Suggestions for antennas for Baofeng UV5G and Tidradio TD-H3 please.
LeoG replied to WSAL750's topic in General Discussion
I have the TD-H3 with the OEM the Smiley Rubber Duck 5/8ths wave and the Nagoya 771G. The 771G is king. Both for transmit and receive on simplex and duplex. Of the 3 antennas I have it works the best for all purposes. That being said it is tall. It gets in the way. People might look at you funny LOL. The Smiley 5/8th wave is a very good antenna. It is at least as good as the OEM and better in most circumstance. Best thing is it is small. It is convenient to use. Makes the H3 compact. When I was playing repeater with it setup in my truck at ground level, through hills and trees I was able to get about 1.3 miles with the Smiley and 1.8 miles with the Nagoya. -
Really? I actually find that odd. If I heard someone calling out my callsign I would likely answer them. Why not? Get to know your neighbors and maybe make a new friend. If they asked to stop by the house, that would be another thing. But to just talk on the radio would be fine.

Digital will need it's own bandwidth and frequencies. We can't have all that crappy digital noise on the analog channels. Digital changed TV for the better. But it was a hard battle and the switch over was brutal.

TIDRadio TD-H3 GMRS - Channel Restrictions?
LeoG replied to danlag's question in Technical Discussion
A GMRS radio is restricted to GMRS frequencies by design. You can't get around it. You can very likely listen to any frequency that the radio will allow you to input. But as for transmitting you are only allowed to put GMRS specific channels. On an open radio you can transmit willy nilly but it's likely not legal if you aren't licensed to do so. My Tidradio has an open mode and you can input whatever you want and transmit if it's in the range of the radio. -
Freddy's the guy on one of my semi local repeaters that likes to hear himself talk. If no one answers him he'll just continue on. It comical at times.
