  1. Part of the reason why I am doing this is because I don't think the neighbors would want anything like an antenna on the side of the house, but a random small white PVC pipe that matches the paint probably would not draw any attention. On the back of the house even better!
  2. Im thinking of making my Ed Fong J-Pole roll up dual-band antenna permanent outdoors, by putting it outside sealed in a narrow PVC pipe clamped to the house. Is this a good idea? Is there a better similar idea I should consider? Different roll up antenna? Gracias amigos.
  3. What are the good ham frequencies to listen to in the NYC area?
  4. My objective is to be able to hear as many signals as I possibly can. I assume a more powerful antenna will help accomplish that. Now can anyone explain the difference between the AR-5RM and the UV-5RM+?
  5. Forgive my stupidity, but i need to be looking at UHF/VHF antennas rated for HAM radios at 108 to 509 mHz, yes?
  6. Which outdoor antennas is this compatible with? I feel like getting a nice big antenna and have it sit outside the house. Pick up ISS, aliens, Klingons etc.
  7. Just got my radio. Sooo much to read.
  8. What "step" level do people recommend for scanning, etc?
  9. Are you able to listen to everything?
  10. Ok, so which antenna do you (and others) recommend buying? Is the ABBREE 771-GMRS good enough to start with?
  11. Supposedly it comes unlocked. Can listen to ALL channels. Can talk to all GMSR channels. Great battery life. Great screen. Easily program in channels with CHIRP. What am I missing? Is there a BETTER Beofang radio??
  12. I bought the AR-5RM cuz I want access to as MANY channels as possible and GMSR, for less than $35. I originally got the UV-5R as it can be unlocked, but the AR is automatically unlocked and had bigger/better screen and other cool bells n whistles, so I get the AR instead. USB charging is very handy, auto channel copy is nice, cool images on screen another nice plus. However if there is another radio that can get MORE channels Ill switch to that one. Basically I want to be able to hear NORAD, Santa, the Klingons, ISS, everything!
  13. The repeater I am trying to connect to is 462.725 MHz. Then its 365 DPL Input Tone and 218.1 Hz Output Tone. However Im not seeing privacy codes for the Rocky Talkie that match these numbers.
  14. Ive found the correct frequency setting. 462.725= channel 22. The rest Im stuck.
  15. Can someone show me how to connect to a repeater with Rocky Talkie? I'd like to try this one. https://mygmrs.com/repeater/1555
