I own the AR-5RM and have lots of questions.
#1. How come when I run the tone scan function in the menu, it never stops on the correct tone?
#2. How come I have programmed the radio using CHIRP, but often I have to change the rx tone to "off" to actually hear people on a frequency? Shouldn't I have to keep the programmed tone to hear people?
I am listening to a repeater on 449.3000. Heard someone talking from Florida.
Heard the term "reflector" used.
Is there a system that allows repeaters to bounce off other repeaters, so that the whole nation can chat on the same frequency?
Part of the reason why I am doing this is because I don't think the neighbors would want anything like an antenna on the side of the house, but a random small white PVC pipe that matches the paint probably would not draw any attention. On the back of the house even better!
Im thinking of making my Ed Fong J-Pole roll up dual-band antenna permanent outdoors, by putting it outside sealed in a narrow PVC pipe clamped to the house. Is this a good idea? Is there a better similar idea I should consider? Different roll up antenna?
Gracias amigos.
My objective is to be able to hear as many signals as I possibly can. I assume a more powerful antenna will help accomplish that.
Now can anyone explain the difference between the AR-5RM and the UV-5RM+?
Which outdoor antennas is this compatible with? I feel like getting a nice big antenna and have it sit outside the house. Pick up ISS, aliens, Klingons etc.
