  1. Why is L-O-L-A Lola going through my head right now?
  2. There are amateur only frequencies at the UHF range (not just HF). That frequency range is 420mhz - 450mhz. It's also referred to as the 70cm band. It seems to have very similar characteristics to the GMRS band as far as propogation, etc.
  3. If the repeater is using different tones for RX/TX (123/411), and you enter the input tone (123) in your radio for both TX and RX, your radio will not receive any audio from any station on that channel that isnt transmitting that tone (123) - you'll see the signal bars light up on your screen but no audio from the repeater. ***Just re-read your question and missed the whole (CH19/RPT19 part), and in short, yes you are correct - if you put tone 411 as receive on RPT19 and simplex channel 19, you will only hear traffic from stations sending the 411 code (ie, the repeater)
  4. You, sir are blessed. My wife thinks it's "cute" when I go nerd out in my office with my radios. When we have bad storms coming, she's the first one to ask if my radios are charged up just in case. I love her.
  5. There's always that "one guy" that walks into the room and instantly puts out that "I'm here to complain" vibe. No doubt he could create a website that would be much better Sheesh
  6. You got that right. It's very difficult to become a multimillionaire on a salary of 150K in 2 years...gotta make it a career!
  7. Term Limits would help to deter some of that behavior.
  8. There's been a lot of "kicking the can down the road" over the past few decades and letting the next administration worry about it because the focus is usually on reelection and mid-terms rather than making the US self-reliant. And then the term "American Exceptionalism" became bad...SMH
  9. Unfortunately, some people just wake up in a foul mood - every day. And they feel it's their duty to spread their misery to as many people as they can (misery loves company). What better way to spread their misery to a large audience very quickly, than on an internet forum? Sad
  10. Is there a way to factory reset those and then reload your channels? Seems silly, but I've had similar things happen and a factory reset is what needed to happen in order to bring the radio back to life.
  11. When I was active on HF, I would take the opportunity to explore the WARC bands like 17m. No contesting allowed there, so it's a nice escape!
  12. Dude - I never said a word about enforcement actions, or anything like that. I said the fact that the net control station mentioned shutting down a "node", that's your sign that it is a linked system. I didn't argue the legalities of such a system. Sheesh
  13. Yeah, the mention of a "node" is pretty much a dead giveaway...
  14. Very true - not to mention if there are enhanced band conditions which can greatly increase coverage, albeit temporarily.
  15. 2017 JK Owner here - Mine looks like it is ready to go offroad, but in reality, it's a "Mall Crawler" - No superior attitude here - just a friendly "Jeep wave"! I have installed a Uniden Pro510XL with a FireStick 2 and have a couple GMRS Handhelds that I throw in when I'm out and about.
  16. SO, I guess I better stop telling my wife "I'm on the way now - traffic was bad".
  17. Life Goal #238: Have "minions" to do my bidding...
  18. I understand what you're saying. Technically this bridge isn't linking repeaters (so I do stand corrected), however, the moment the GMRS voice communication goes out across the bridge which would be "any other network", to reach the POC radio, it is against the rules as they stand today. Or am I missing something?
  19. A community is best served by a reliable repeater that covers the community - hearing conversations from across the country on a linked system does not benefit the local community who are wanting/needing to communicate with folks in their local area. Let Ham Radio be Ham Radio, and let GMRS be GMRS.
  20. Laugh if you want. I'll sit this one out and watch from the sidelines...should be interesting. Best of luck
  21. Wouldn't it make more sense to make sure your argument is "iron clad" and can hold up in a court, BEFORE suggesting something like this? The "or other networks" portion of your highlighted statement is pretty clear I think. I'm not comfortable investing in these products and putting them into service based on your discussion with "friends who practice law". That sounds like a great way to get a nastygram from the FCC to me.
  22. A solution looking for a problem...
  23. I don't know about a national organization like REACT, but just lurking on here I see various references to locally organized community/neighborhood watch groups that use GMRS/FRS and I think that's a great idea.
