  1. Don't try to overcomplicate everything.. It's just good line of sight..
  2. Is there a mountain between you and the further away repeater like with the closer one? I regularly and normally connect to a repeater 69 miles away on my handheld radios and using my base-station with a big antenna on the roof, i can connect to repeaters 80 or 90 miles away - yet there are other repeaters 10 miles away that I cant connect to because of hills/mountains.
  3. Geezus Khrist... You need to go outside and get some fresh air and sunshine..
  4. Ignore it.. it's not that hard, besides, they aren't going to ruin anything. a year from now nobody will even remember them.
  5. If it works on the older UV-5R, then NO.. If it works on any of the newer/bigger ones with the color screen, then, probably.

    Mr

Yes, with a probability of 97%
  7. I just spelled "Mark" wrong! (honestly, i dont remember either conversation)
  8. I used to have the same misguided feelings.. But I learned from my best friend Josh that licensing is the only way the FCCs has to know how many people are using the service.. So before they start giving away frequencies they will have an idea of how many people they are going to piss-off.
  9. Would not open for me last night on my iPad, but this morning it was working fine.
  10. Never gunna happen... Bookmark this comment and let's follow up in 5 years so I can say "told 'ya so!" ...
  11. ...because too many of them tell lies and fairy-tales to make themselves look more important...
  12. There is no rule or regulation that says these frequencies must be "transmit blocked", and, nobody asked anyway..Stop making up lies, its making you look ignorant.
  13. I do not recall the exact name of it, but there is a Menu Setting that you can change to show name, frequency or channel.. Might be called MDF or something like that.. Find it, then set it to 'name'.
  14. Yes. Try getting closer to the repeater and/or confirming that you have the correct code and that the repeater is actually online.
  15. A road has intersections, stop signs and stoplights.. A highway, aka a freeway, does not.
  16. All the cool-kids use GMRS Ch19..
  17. Wait.. How does linking a repeater across multiple states monopolize every channel?
  18. Why don't you tell us what "best" means to YOU, then we can focus on those attributes.
  19. No because i mounted the antenna on my chimney.
  20. I got my repeater up for under $1k .. Not the biggest/best in the area but it has about 900sq miles of coverage.
  21. Me too... I HAD two brand new RT97L's that I could have used to test this.. but I gave them both away.. Now i'm kicking myself and I wish I was not so kind, unselfish and loving toward my fellow-man... Never again!
  22. The only way to know for sure is to put a meter or portable antenna analyzer on it and test it.. But, like the @mb523 said, its not going to work very well.
  23. That page does not come up for me.. But lets also take a moment to remember that Retevis also posted on their website and on Youtube, a video showing/proving that you can add their 25W external linear amplifier to the original RT97 and it will then output 25 watts.. They even showed a power-test on the video to prove it.. ..... Until a big GMRS youtuber came along and called them out by pointing out that it would output more power but it will not be able to RECEIVE anything because the amp is placed after the duplexer....and if you placed the amp before the internal duplexer that was rated for 5W, it would destroy it... Then they deleted everything....
