Forced low power on repeater channel 17
OffRoaderX replied to WSCW398's question in Technical Discussion
The repeater has a feature where it will go into "F-Off" mode when someone keeps keying it up..over and over.. without saying anything.. not sure that was you.. but.. it went into that mode earlier, but its back to normal now so give it a try (just say something when you test it).. -
Dude.. just... duude... Either you are one of the worlds greatest trolls, approaching even my troll-status, OR you are seriously broken inside and should seek help and medication.

Forced low power on repeater channel 17
OffRoaderX replied to WSCW398's question in Technical Discussion
Get your two radios at least 100 feet apart, then test again for your voice On a GMRS radio you cannot program a repeater on channel 17 - on a GMRS radio channel 17 is Simplex only channel. Repeater/channel power outputs have nothing at all to do with FRS You are very confused. My guess is you are doing something wrong (see last item on the list above) - but Channel 25 should be able to transmit at HIGH power - are you saying the radio is set/showing HIGH power, but only a low-power amount of RF-Electricies are coming out when you measure it, or, does the radio indicate that it is set to LOW power? -

Forced low power on repeater channel 17
OffRoaderX replied to WSCW398's question in Technical Discussion
That channel should be able to transmit at High power - are you sure you went into the menus whilst on that channel, set it to HIGH, and SAVED the change? Also - not transmitting your voice would have nothing to do with being on High or Low power... How are you testing to determine that your voice is not going through? -
I'm no expert either (hence, my question) but that looks more like JUST a camera that you attach to a big telescope.. I'm asking about the small tabletop digital/smart type telescopes like the Seestar S50 ..

Best GMRS channel to monitor for traffic
OffRoaderX replied to WSEN722's topic in General Discussion
Nope.. I said channel 19 is the official "road"/travel channel - for talking with everyone else in your group whilst on the road & traveling.. Very different from the OP who apparently wants to just listen in to anonymous men chatting - we have no idea how far from the highway he is. -
For you telescope experts, what is your opinion of the new digital "Smart" type imaging telescopes?

No.. I'm running Win 11 for ARM through Parallels and its working with com-ports just fine.. A few very old programs have issues, but most work fine.

Coincidentally a very common trait of "some people".... -
Wouxun KG-Q10G vs. rt systems software.
OffRoaderX replied to Willie's question in Technical Discussion
Of course you have... And here i've owned probably 2 dozen Wouxuns and have at least 50 friends/acquaintances that have them, usually based on my recommendation, and here i've never seen one DOA.. I guess i'm doing it wrong. Willie: Call BuyTwoWayRadios on Monday and tell them to send you a new one. -

There was no "BS" in that post. I answered the question. If the answer made you sad, that is a you problem. -
Best GMRS channel to monitor for traffic
OffRoaderX replied to WSEN722's topic in General Discussion
The best GMRS channel to monitor is the one in your local area that has the most traffic to monitor. But: If you got a GMRS radio to monitor/listen to people talk or to find anonymous men to chat with, you bought the wrong radio. Using the Grindr app might be a better choice for you. -
You're already over-complicating it and doing it wrong.. GMRS is not for "making contacts" - GMRS if for staying in contact with your group/friends/family while off-roading, caravanning, hiking, etc. For testing, the best thing to do is to get one of those friend/family on another radio and do some range-testing just to make sure everything is working. Also, FYI - I have tested the UV-72g and in all of my testing it is not a great antenna - it has been the worst performing of all the mobile antennas I have tested (I have tested a lot of mobile antennas) with noticeable and measurable deficiencies when compared to other antennas... I prefer (and recommend) the MXTA26 which is what I use on both of my Jeeps.. But that is just my personal preference based on size and performance, so take it with a bag of salt.

Transmitting on non-compliant radios
OffRoaderX replied to Monsterduc's question in Technical Discussion
Based on my understanding, they can only do this after they have observed, identified, and fingerprinted the radio.. They cannot tell anything about a fresh, out-of-the-box, never before surveilled radio. -
Transmitting on non-compliant radios
OffRoaderX replied to Monsterduc's question in Technical Discussion
Just for clarification - According to the FCC's own records & data, 99.99999% of people doing it in the last 15 years "get away with it", and 99.9999% of people also over wattage, have also gotten away with it. -
FWIW, I have a buddy that bought one that was a dud (probably fake) - measured 99.9SWR/dead short.. they sent him a new one, no questions asked.. it was also a dead-short dud... But I've had a few that worked just fine.

My comment was a bit of an "inside comment".. iYKYK ....

Everyone I know that has had that antenna has thrown theirs straight into the trash.

Have you been diagnosed? Or, has nobody pointed it out to you yet?

When is one officially become a “radio dork”?
OffRoaderX replied to GMRSJohn's topic in Miscellaneous Topics
You're all a bunch of radio AND internet dorks. -
I prefer the 5W when we are off-roading but my wife uses the Mountain Radio. For when we are out of the Jeeps and within 1/2 mile or so of each other it works fine.. But as we get further from each other/around bends/etc, the extra couple of watts on the 5W feels better. Either would probably do the job just fine for what you want.

I have tested and used both of the Rocky Talkie radios and can confirm that they are indeed very rugged and very simple to use. I used to use a Motorola XTS2500 as my off-roading handheld but have now switched to the Rocky Talkie 5W radio because it is smaller, lighter and far more simple to use. and it has pretty much the same farz for local (within 1mile) comms. The silly little (very strong/rugged) umbilical cable that comes with the 5W has also prevented me from dropping/losing the radio multiple times.
