and risk a hefty fine or jail time? It's your choice, but is it really worth it?!

Akshully - In most (all?) states you cannot simply "look up" info from a license plate. Whereas anyone can look up someone's full legal name and address in about 3 seconds on the FCC's freely available and widely-known website.
Not saying criminals are going to be searching out people on vacation as the OP suggests (that's stupid), but comparing looking up a vehicle tag to a callsign is not a valid comparison.
..and if i've learned anything from people on this website, it is that minor little pedantic details like this are apparently very... VERY important and worth arguing over for days or even months to prove who thinks they are smarter...

My money is on a tone being stored on the channel.

Make sure they are all on the same frequency Make sure they are all on regular simplex channels, not repeater channels and/or do not have a +/- split Make sure none of the radios are using any CTC/CTCSS/DTC/DPL tones or codes Make sure the radios are at least 50 feet apart from each other when testing -

If you want the repeater to remain more stealthy, no kerchunk makes it sound like people chatting on simplex..

OffRoaderX got a reaction from WRCR724 in Texas needs more
So I have a question. Why haven't you put one up?
-
OffRoaderX got a reaction from WRCR724 in Texas needs more repeaters
Because instead of being a pillar of the community and putting up a repeater, they go online and complain about there not being enough repeaters for them to use.

You are 100% correct that they are not only our representatives, but they are also there to serve us.. But It's cute that you think this would actually accomplish anything because they all seem to have forgotten about that part of the job.

There is a setting for the kerchunk.. "STE" i think? I would double check for you but both of mine are boxed back up and ready to be given away to lucky viewers.

OffRoaderX reacted to WRTC928 in BTech GMRS RPT50 - NEW 50-Watt GMRS Only Repeater
I emailed BTech support and got a reply that you can't program "no tone" in the software; you have to do it from the keypad. I said that didn't make a lot of sense when you have software available. She got kinda snotty with me and said, "You do realize it's a GMRS specific repeater and you can't change the repeater pairs?" I said yes, I know that, but it doesn't address my issue. She shot back with, "Most of our customers prefer to do programming from the keypad anyway." I wanted to ask, "Or do they just program from the keypad because your software sucks?" but I figured it would be pointless and just let it go.
Bottom line -- you can do it, but only from the keypad.

OffRoaderX got a reaction from WRTC928 in Trying to renew a long expired license
upon reflection - it probably is common because the FCC website is such a dumpster-fire that a lot of people may create an FRN for a license then are never able to log back in/recover it for an additional license, so they end up having to create a new FRN... This happened to me..

OffRoaderX got a reaction from WRTC928 in THE FCC PERMITS LANGUAGES BESIDES ENGLISH?
You thought wrong. The only requirement regarding language is that your callsign be announced in English, and even if there was a requirement that you use only English on repeaters, it wouldn't matter because the FCC does not enforce the rules (ie; they dont care).
