  1. Too new to know how to become one.... I am really interested in connecting folks in the Tidewater area (Virginia Beach, VA), more specifically the southside. The peninsula has a robust presence but we do not. I think we need to compliment the area for emergencies AND build the GRMS base here. So...let me know how I can pull this off getting to premium and start a club. 2/B) anyone interested, please speak up here or anywhere or on the FB page. DM me, whatever.
  2. You give them far too much credit...
  3. Umm, we are all adults, right? We all faced the same learning curves, right? We all can still communicate even with different terminologies, right? We adapt to the situation's terminologies, right? (kinda like two tradesman from different states working together and his whosiewhatsit is the other guys thingajiger but by the end of the day they understand the same concept). Teaching and mentoring is one thing but you can't force someone to learn anything especially based on your perception. Lead a horse to water type thing. Justa Sayin'
  4. And dead horse...
  5. I'm taking this horse to the glue factory.
  6. Hello all, I have been in here for about a year. I enjoy all the discussions. Many have help greatly while others have left me in amazement. To clarify (not justify), this is a hobby and a tool at the same time. I interject humor because there far more things in this world to worry about. Therefore "don't sweat the small stuff". this is not a place to die on the cross. Sit back enjoy the conversations and learn a little along the way. I am as excited today as I was on 8/31/24 when I joined. Yeap, new to ya'll but not jaded yet but I do not believe I will become that way as a sense of humor wins. I ask that if you see a post from me which isn't polarized or even doesn't make sense, I would hope you would take a second to reevaluate your passion for the topic and learn what to let go....Justa sayin' WSEL330 - Former Jarhead
  7. I don't get it (sitting back nawing on crayons) Tick, tick...Am I a Retard or am I being controlled by the man, I mean the HAM...WOW, my life just shuttered like an old truck on ice. Man, this site is tipping my flat little world!
  8. Got one and dig it!
  9. Good afternoon gang. I live in VB around gate 5. I am cobbling together a small repeater but not sure if I can pull it off. Anyway, I am interested in a local group. I am hoping that we could build a community here to support getting a repeater on par with the Hampton repeater. Lets open the dialog see if this is viable.
  10. Just a comment not meant to toll or support any points of view. I was brought into radio protocol via the military. The lessons are hard to break even after multiple boxes of crayons. It is almost pavlovian when I grab the radio. I have washed some of the terminology out but old habits die hard. You are welcome to ignore me or point out when I trip into military mode. P.S. I will not ask for a call sign
  11. You may want to google what gear we used to use on these...
  12. No wait! the earth is flat...google that S@#t
  13. Seriously? Radio jail? How would you be 'punked' in there? People walk away so you cant hear them? Do they just now respond to conversation? Step behind an object to not engage? Would your prison number be your callsign you didn't use? Would you have to make up a crazy story to be accepted, like a renegade repeater of something...LOL
  14. Bummer, I believe I only have a mic jack in the back unlike a handhelds. Of course the manuals do nothing for me. Wondering if I just plug a mic cord between them or mic cord from 628/629....Hmm.
  15. Hello gang. I've been playing with these a little while, enough to work them but new enough to venture neck deep. I am fooling around with building a repeater with two of these radios. I realize my connector and cable collect will expand. I have a 100W duplexer, two DB40-G radios in service (which will test my toy before purchasing more). I have an antennae which will work for this game. 1) Do they need to be connected together (mic wire, controller, etc...)? 2)Depending on the previous answer, what would be recommended? This is a fun project which is relatively low budget. Sorry that I have not added a clever sign off below but its coming.
