  1. From what I have heard I don't think GMRS repeaters are supposed to be linked. I would love to se linking because in a natural disaster it would be nice to get long distances out of requests for equipment and medical supplies to an area far enough away that was unaffected from the storm or whatever. Jerry
  2. A friend of mine has the same radio and loves it. It also looks good to carry in public so it has credibility to others that see it and ask questions. It has good audio in and good speaker sound. I just ordered one as a backup for my Yaesu VX-177 UHF only. Google it and let me know what you think of it. I got it on Amazon for $46.42with free shipping. I hope I'm allowed to put price and stuff on here. I am excited to get it and put it to use. Jerry
  3. Ok, thanks. He has been reading up about the GMRS repeater stuff so I'm sure he is going to set it at the 50 watts. It should still be a big booming repeater for the area. A guy is getting into it already from Clyde, Ohio so when it gets stronger it should be full quieting almost everywhere. He is moving the transmit stick up another 20 feet so it should be almost 430 feet. That is great for this flat area. Jerry
  4. I would like to say that I have had 2 HT1000 portables and both of them are not used anymore due to ground problems they develop. I have a GP300 that I still use. Jerry
  5. A good friend of mine has put up a GMRS repeater in my area that is over 400 feet in the air. He is using a borrowed digital repeater for the moment but will re crystal his big 100 watter for use soon. He just got ahold of 7/8 hard line and a 16 bay folded dipole that he believes is 10 or 12 db gain. He will turn it down to keep the repeater safe, and it is on top of a building so the hard line is super short. He has his ham, commercial, and GMRS licenses, and used to work for a radio service so he can get a lot of stuff super cheap or free. He has a 40 mile foot print now and hopes to get it back to almost 60 miles like his commercial machine used to do it the same exact location. If he runs the repeater at 75 or 80 watts and has about 50 at the antenna is he legal? I hope so. Just questions. Should be huge by the end of the month. Jerry
  6. I am attached to multiple professional radio companies here in Toledo, Ohio. I mostly just know the guys, and they are all hams also. I hang out with a few of them a whole lot. I know that any pro radio company can get you a few portables and rent you time on an established repeater in town somewhere. You can also pick between conventional and multiple types of trunking systems. I have access on channels and repeaters here in the conventional, LTR trunk, 800 MZ type 2i trunk, and APCO 25 trunk systems. If the trunk systems have enough voice channels to keep you from getting busy outs then they can be a good, kinda private, system to rent time on. Just some thoughts of mine. Jerry
  7. I am also an amateur but also hold a GMRS license. I like both of the radio services and plan to stay active in both of them. Jerry
