  1. the meter is a MFJ 874 yes i triple checked my measurements just didnt double check my CPS tuning. Motorola XPR5550e 403-470Mhz 40w to a Laird RG8X NMO roof mount Mini UHF connector Laird BB4505CR https://www.theantennafarm.com/catalog/laird-technologies-bb4505cr-6538 feed line is RG8X with a mini uhf connector installed by The Antenna Farm. Its a Laird MB8X https://www.theantennafarm.com/catalog/laird-technologies-mb8x-1141 antenna is in center of my 17 Silverado crew cab.
  2. i only want GMRS. the 403.025 is just what the lowest frequency the radio can be programmed to. the band with on these are 20Mhz. they are tune able from 450-470Mhz
  3. my radio XPR5550e is programmable from 403.025Mhz to 470Mhz. by default when you program a channel you add the channel to the zone. then you have to set everything up manually. Motorola CPS is doesnt do anything automatically for you. you have to remember to set your tx and rx frequencies or the one you forget will stay at 403.0250Mhz. I some how forgot to program the RX frequency so it stayed at the default 403.0250Mhz. I set the RX to 465.0000mhz but forgot to change the TX to 465.0000Mhz. The radio only displays what you name the channel so I just see 465.0000 because i name each channel by frequency.
  4. ya i did cut longer. then because i didnt know i was tx on 403.025 instead of 465.000 on the 2nd cut the SWR was over 3. on the 3rd cut the (recommended length) i checked lowest and highest frequencies and saw it was 1.7 and 1.2. their measurement is slightly too short for my set up. Motorola XPR5550e. both antennas are at the specs listed for 465.000Mhz. I was wondering why when i tried to calibrate the SWR the needle was going lower and lower. the radio was cutting power because of the high swr.
  5. i clipped the bottom like the directions said.
  6. it comes almost pre tuned to 450MHz @13-1/8" 465.0000 you cut to 11-11/16th. says so on the package. wish i could load pics on this forum. lol i screwed up in CPS i just noticed the i forgot to set the TX frequency. it was at the default 403.025Mhz. So even though my display was 465.000 it was tx on 403.0250. and thats why i cut to short. good thing i checked lowest and highest frequency im going to use. 1.7swr is good to go. i will buy new wips and tune them right and just keep theses as spares. I also cut a BB4503S too. SWR is about the same on that one too
  7. Ok i started tuning my Laird BB4505CR mobile antenna and i cut it too short of course. 1.7 SWR, @ 462.550 1.2 SWR @467.7250. but @465.0000 i have 3.2SWR. how is that? edited because i screwed up in CPS and forgot to set the TX frequency to 465.0000 instead of the default 403.0250Mhz
  8. thanks ill be tuning my GMRS and CB antennas tomorrow.
  9. So it would be a good idea that when tuning a antenna to check your lowest, middle, and highest freq and if 1s SWR starts to rise stop.
  10. i dont know any one with a cb. not many people around here do. I dont talk much though either
  11. Wilson 5000. SWR was 1.0 -1.3 im switching to a Laird CB27S to match my Laird BB4505CR for gmrs
  12. 6 miles am iv never gotten anyone on side band that came back to me.
  13. Iv noticed alot of talk on GMRS forums of people asking about antennas and replies of this antenna will work between 4**Mhz and 470Mhz and never mention that it needs to be tuned. By reading what people post it sounds like people dont know that they have to tune every antenna. You have to trim the antenna to get a SWR below 2.0 or better. 1.5 or lower is ideal. for GMRS you need to tune your antenna at 465.00000Mhz if you use repeaters. if simplex only, 462.60000Mhz. you dont just install a antenna because it list that it works between. 420Mhz and 470Mhz. That means it can be tuned between those channels. you tune at the center of the band you are using. or you can use the channel you will use the most. your frequency range will be the channels you can get below 2.0SWR.
  14. you have to tune the antenna. if you use repeaters you tune to 465.0000Mhz. if you dont want to spend $100 for a SWR meter any radio shop can do it for you. i recommend Laird. professional quality antennas.
  15. i will say everyone who came back to me said the thing sounds great. never got anyone more then 6 miles though. but unless they have a base or power you're not getting out in these hills.
  16. its got the guts of a RM Italy KL203 installed inside the radio.
  17. ya now that im learning im thinking your right.
  18. i bought mine new from https://northgeorgiacommunications.com/ a authorized Motorola dealer for $695. you have to by through a authorized dealer for the warranty.
  19. i have a MJF-874 https://mfjenterprises.com/products/mfj-874. i dont know were the pots are on the new 980 (2019) radios. i beleave they are not separate by watching videos.
  20. remember if buying new on ebay. most companies only offer warranties if sold by authorized dealers.
  21. ok thanks. i had no idea the middle would damage the radio. this sucks though. i paid alot of money to have that cb radio built. i can switch off the amp but the radio was turned down to 2.5w to work with it. What about the 12w SSB. i would have to get the cb turned up. can i go any farther. these radios will safely go to 22w
  22. 3-5 miles? im doing better then that with my 4w handhelds inside my truck. a mobile with a external antenna at 40w should do better then that. i know repeaters dont count with range but with a 4w hand held i can hit a our repeater 20miles away and talk to my dad who is another 20miles further. so 40 miles as crow flies using 4w radios. i was just talking to my dad simplex 10 miles away. but he is at 1750' elevation. So that had alot to do with it. Cant wait for the Firing pin to get the other 3 repeaters up linked together. it will cover most on NY state.
