  1. It's a 2003 TJ.
  2. Rather than start a new thread, I'll post my question here since it's Jeep related. I need to move my antenna from the driver's tail light mount to another location. Has anyone mounted their antenna in another location? I'm considering the driver side cowl using this mount, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089TB6CJJ/?coliid=I6FHKZYBNPP85&colid=4NDGBZMTU9SZ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it and a Tram 1174 antenna.
  3. Who cares about channels 8-14. If you want to talk to someone on 0.5 watt, grab your FRS radio and talk to them. You know you have a backup for your buds!
  4. $400 for a starter radio that has limited features for the GMRS enthusiast, and narrow band? Hard pass.
  5. I got this one based on what NotaRubicon used to use in his videos for 12 volt power supply. It worked fine for me while I programed the radio with the software. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078RZQ9WY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  6. Sounds pretty typical for Midland.
  7. When displaying only one channel, is there a way to get rid of the radio model display. Can you add your call sign there maybe?
  8. Mine installed in my Jeep. Really liking this radio!
  9. Didn't want to mess with it and ended up returning it. Purchased this one instead. https://www.buytwowayradios.com/wouxun-kg-xs20g.html
  10. Received mine yesterday. Very nice little radio. I plugged it in to my 12 volt supply for my base unit setup and programmed my local repeaters and named them. Didn't need the software, but I can see how the software programming would be faster. I haven't been able to figure out how to save certain scan groups. I'd like to be able to just scan my saved repeaters and skip the simplex channels in scan mode.
  11. It's the Baufeng UV-9G. So far it's been a good HT.
  12. I just ordered one, so I'll give my thoughts on it once I get it rolling.
  13. Actually, I'm having trouble with it. I can't get the software to download to my laptop. When I turn it on, it only displays 2 channels.
  14. I received the AT-779UV today. Cute little radio. It will fit nicely where I had my external speaker that I don't use anymore. The Talkabout's are for the grand kids to play with. Trying to get them interested in radio while they are young.
  15. Thanks folks. This was helpful. Although it was still a bit cumbersome to navigate thru the updates as a novice to windows 10, I was able to make it work and now have the radio programed to my needs. Thanks again for the assistance!
  16. I've downloaded their programing software from the website, purchased the programming cable from them, but can't get my device manager to recognize the radio or assign a com port. Any ideas?
  17. I'm done with Midland. There are many choices out there for a better radio, so my MXT275 is for sale.
  18. I have the 275 in my jeep, and recently acquired the UV9G. Sounds like you have the 275 configured correctly. The UV9G is fairly simple to setup for repeaters, but if you have any questions about it, let me know. How old is your MXT-275?
  19. Some good, and some bad. Radio has a good, solid feel to it. Display is clear and pretty much looks like the one on my GM-30. The squelch sucks! The radio came preprogrammed with ctcss tones on every gmrs channel. Why? Also, in narrow band. So, you have to go into the menu and turn off the tone in every channel, as well as turn to wide band in every frickin channel!
  20. Ordered one on the 9th. Finally shipped today.
  21. Similar problem I have with my MXT275. Apparently, they upgraded the MXT115 and 275 to now accept split tones recently. I emailed Midland about it, and there response was to buy the upgraded version of the 275, as they cannot upgrade my current version of the radio. I'm betting they can, but just want me to spend more monies. I like most everything about the radio except not being able to program split tones, and of course the narrow/wide band thing.
  22. My experiment continues tonight. Received my 110/12volt DC converter, 10A. 25' of low loss RG8x coax(hoping it's long enough), a couple of coax unions, and a Midland accessory plug. The plan, move my 5db gain antenna to the very top of the roof on top of my swamp cooler, route my cable to the front deck where I normally hang out, remove my Midland MXT-275 from my Jeep and plug it in as a base unit. Having the extra Midland power plug will make it super easy to unplug the unit from my jeep and just plug in to the 12 volt converter. I'll be effectively running 41' of coax, so I'm hoping I won't lose much line loss. The repeater I'll be trying for is 45 miles across the lake on the southern mountain range as seen from my front deck. I was able to reach it ok with my HT with the antenna just on my front porch awning, so with the extra power of the MXT-275 and the antenna another 8ft higher, it should have no problem.
  23. I'll let you know. Ordered one yesterday. Comes with a programming cable too.
  24. I've been experimenting with this very thing. I have a repeater about 25 miles away across the lake that I can hear conversations but can't transmit with my HT and the attached antenna. I put a 5 db gain Browning on the roof of my house with a 2x3' sheet of metal for a ground plane and a mag mount, and hooked it up to my HT producing about 3 watts and can have a normal conversation with the mentioned repeater.
