  1. No, I get that. I'm saying I want it to turn itself on when I turn on the Jeep. I understand what happens if I wire it to the battery and leave it on for days without driving it (which I frequently do). I jump in it and go to work without remembering to turn it on a lot, and the kids are disappointed when they can't talk to me on the way because I forgot. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  2. The bigger issue I find with the MXT275 is it can't be set to turn on and off with the ignition. Seems like a pretty basic thing to me. I already have my second KG-1000 sitting here and plan to unload my Midland when I get it installed.
  3. My KG-1000's mention stun and kill functions but I never knew what they did. Now I know. Just curious WRAK968, how did you find the offender and did you knock on their door? I used to DF ELTs with Civil Air Patrol when I was younger, but I've never seen what equipment LMR guys would use for that.
  4. Oh wow, I was literally in Gaithersburg this morning! Had no idea that place was there. Might go check it out next time I'm in town.
  5. Very nice. I like that one a little better then the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRZAN3R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_JZNEG88YR0RBBK9DB3RB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 And yes, I am also a veteran of the photobucket debacle and am very familiar with bb code and the correct square brackets. I prefer using the board's native uploader as well for that reason and just ease of use. Unfortunately this board has a very small upload size limit and after trying Tapatalk again, I still hate the interface. I just turned off notifications in the app and only use it to post pics when I need to. I think the reason it didn't work for me was the hosting site I used, but I'm over it. 6. I used the brackets in my first post and it no worky. Maybe it's the hosting service I used?
  7. Midland says it's a 5/8 according to the website. Anybody know of a good 1/2 wave antenna?
  8. I have a TJ and both sides are Teraflex mounts. They make them for both sides. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  9. I like being able to interface with my kid's when they use their Pokemon bubble pack radios. And all FRS/GMRS freqs are the same now except for the repeater input freqs. If you don't want to hear FRS, I suggest using a tone. As you yourself said, there usually isn't a ton of traffic on GMRS. If people are worried kids on FRS are going to "ruin" GMRS for everyone else, they might be more suited to ham as a hobby. GMRS has no test and is easy for the public to access for a reason.
  10. Tuning specific to GMRS freqs. Or did you mean performance difference? Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  11. I wonder how much of a difference they is between the 771g and 771 in performance. I've got the 771 now.
  12. None of these are actual GMRS rules except ones of your own making. Actually you are breaking the rules by substituting your made up callsigns for real ones. Clear and courteous communications are what matters on GMRS. You wouldn't want me picking apart your atrocious grammar on a forum for example, would you? I mean, english rules are rules, even if there is no grammar police, right? I likely spend more time on the radio than any other person on this forum. Nobody is worried about strict use of callsigns or made up tactical units other than a few people banging away at their keyboards on an internet forum, I can assure you. Real professionals use them when needed and no more. I will never encourage people to ignore them completely, but setting the alarm on your watch to make sure you get it out there every 15 min is beyond pointless unless there is a specific need. When I'm reaching out for somebody on GMRS on a repeater or even simplex, yes, needed. When I'm having an ongoing, spaced out conversation with several people in my group of Jeeps going off-road? Nope. And nobody is worse for it.
  13. Sounds similar to the exhaust back pressure falicy.
  14. I've never been on the jlwrangler site. I just downloaded the tapatalk app then looked up mygmrs.
  15. Tapatalk did it, thanks man! I just tested it in the Jeep thread.
  16. Just testing out Tapatalk with the same pics in my original post..... And I didn't specify in my original post I'm using above the taillight mounts for both antennas. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  17. Thanks and I'll take a look. I certainly don't mind paying for it. Actually I think I have already got a different forum. I just didn't like the interface at the time. This was years ago though. Does using it raise the image size limit?
  18. Oh, yeah, gotcha. Yes, most forums are more pictures friendly nowadays. I'm not super interested in registering on a new forum just to share pics of that install though, sorry. Hopefully a way presents itself to do that on here. I did upload a couple pics of my current setup on the Jeeps and Radios thread using Flikr, but you have to click the links. They aren't embedded. I'll do the same with new pics when I get it installed.
  19. I'll be happy to post up pics. That's what I was hoping to do in the Jeeps and Radios thread. Are you saying I can use that forum to host pics I can embed on here?
  20. Just in case anybody was wondering, a standard CAT5 network cable extension works just fine to extend the cable from the faceplate to the mic. As if the remote faceplate wasn't easy enough to mount lol. I had called B2WRs and asked if it would work but they didn't know, so I chanced a few bucks to find out myself. I'm planning to mount the faceplate inside my center console in the Jeep and have the mic hanging from the usual TJ spot to the right of the steering column.
  21. Sounds like somebody is playing pretend military to me.
  22. That thing is hawt! How did you post the pic? Did you somehow shrink it enough to use the forum picture upload?
  23. I tried posting pics and failed. I am not a forum newb. Hoping somebody can help me navigate this forum's needs as far as pics go. Wrangler models: After the CJ came the '87?-'95 YJ. Leaf sprung and weird square headlights. Then came the best Jeep, the '97-'06 TJ. Coil sprung and proper round Jeep headlights. Just the right amount of modern but still stupid simple. They also made an "Unlimited" variant people unofficially call the LJ (long Jeep) which is stretched similar to the Scrambler. Also the Rubicon model had a better transfer case and locking beefier axles. '07-'17? were JK's. These saw the advent of the 4 door option which has seen them explode in popularity. It also means a lot of people who would have otherwise bought an SUV to haul the kids around bought these, so a lot of earlier Jeep guys kind of look down on these. You'll see a lot more stupid low profile 24" rims or bought not built mall crawlers in these years. The JKU just means JK unlimited which is the 4 door version. JKUR = Unlimited Rubicon model JK. The '18+ are JT (Jeep truck) and JL. They are nice and very expensive. I wouldn't want to scratch mine or roll it. Non-Wranglers: XJ is the classic Cherokee. Super dope. I love these. '87-'06? ZJ is the original Grand Cherokee. These are very cool. Because v8 and you can still wheel them
