  1. Every weekend I try to hit 6 different repeater in my area with no luck. Today after putting a antenna adapter on my 905G I hit a repeater (2 repeaters and one live person contact) since getting into GMRS. After getting home I checked out this sites map and It seems that 5 repeaters that I have permission to use are well not there anymore. One repeater I know is to far away, it is kind of a bunch list item. But who are the folks I hear on channel 27 / RPT 19? Spill over onto GMRS channel 19
  2. As per the map this repeater is not longer in service.
  3. I did troubleshoot with the multimeter. The power supply worked (same power supply that comes with UV-5R's). But the base was not working. With the UV-5Rs the red light on the base comes on and after awhile it starts to flash red / green until the battery in fully charged. With the BTech base no power at the studs and no lights. The charging set up is almost a third of the price for a new V-2.
  4. I was able to hit the repeater on Mt Wilson (one of two contacts I have made since getting into GMRS). And got a rather upset fireman screaming that the repeater was only for fireman. My only other contact was with the NotARubicon guy who let me come on his Jeep outing. I do enjoy FRS (2 instead of 5/50).
  5. The radio that this post was about is called Rocky Talkie (no affiliate link). The one thing that draws me back to this radio is the silicon pocket that the radio slips into. While I'm not prove to dropping radios, the added protection of the silicone packet is worth noting.
  6. The charging cradle is not working, so my BTech V-1 is dead. Short of buying a new charging setup is there a way I can charge the radio?
  7. what am i doing wrong?
  8. When I try to complete my profile I get a box asking for my Ham call sign. I try to pass over this and I'm back to the forums main page.
  9. I ordered one of those GMRS charts from BTWR (no affiliate link) and found it in my mail box today. The nice mailperson had folded it in thirds. The shipper had not put a "DO NOT FOLD" stamp or label on the folder or even put a bit of cardboard to protect the chart. I'm now going to step outside an SCREAM.
  10. Let me clarify my first statement. I didn't hear any traffic on any GMRS channel or repeater. So if I don't hear anybody on a GMRS channel there is no point in my making a request for HELP! As repeater step on channels 15-22 that met to me "no one was home". My antenna is a GMRS tuned mag mount Nagoya (sell check).
  11. That guy on youtube lives on a hill and has perfect line of site to the repeater 69 miles away - meaning there is nothing between him and it. I'm pretty sure he's explained that in pretty much every video. I'm not saying he is not telling the truth. I just don't see how a 5 watt HT with a range of up to 36 miles (elevated terrain)(BuyTwoWayRadios GMRS chart) and from the fellows den, though his window and though the trees across the street can hit the Mt Pal repeater 69 miles away.
  12. I learned how to setup and program my radio from watching some old YouTube videos posted from some old guy who looks like GI Joe.
  13. San Gabriel Canyon road lookout (highway 39 at about 6,000 ft elevation) is wear I met the fellow with the tricked out Subie. This spot was 13.74 miles as the crow flies North of the 210. And about 40 miles from the Mt Santiago repeater. But I heard nothing on channels 1-7 and 15-22 plus 8 repeater channels.
  14. My computer had the pdf as 905G manual.pdf. But when opened it just now (6-25-2022 @ 0800 hrs, it does show 935. Yes I could of made a mistake or maybe they are reading post to this forum and they want me to look bad (for asking about a affiliate link)
  15. So very simple, you just got to SCREAM in the microphone. Then folks will say wow you got a wide band radio.
  16. Read my question again. THE MANUAL LIST 56 MENU ITEM, BUT THE RADIO ONLY HAS 35 MENU ITEMS. SO HOW DO I OPEN UP THE OTHER 21 MENU ITEMS?
  17. In many stated a Common Law Marriage is legal and binding. And lets not forget that US Foreign Embassy they fly the gay pride flag.
  18. Cheap one maybe yes, sure not with my Wouxun 906G
  19. My 905G radio has 35 menu items. But the manual listed 56 menu items. So what do i need to do to the radio to open up the missing menu items?
  20. In a quest to make contact with a repeater I went way up into the mountains. It was a fun time, saw a lot of stuff. But I had gone to far, I was out of cell coverage. I turned on my 20 watt mobile radio (no affiliate link below) and heard nothing. Ever though that guy on YouTube said he hit a repeater (with what ever HT he was reviewing) while in is house 69 miles away. I found that I was to far from every thing and quite screwed. Maybe my 50 watt mobile could been a better choice. So I pulled into a turn off full of tricked out Subie's with wings. I guess they were down hill racers, but they were open and friendly. So while technology failed me, a Filipino fellow with a fat tire, cold intake, turbo, warped, and winged Subie, help me get home.
  21. By FCC it would be False Advertisement then
  22. By FCC it would be False Advertisement
  23. A few companies sell radios with more than standard 1-22 channels. One company claims there radio has a 128 channels. By adding a "privacy tone" do you create a real channel?
  24. As I can't charge my V1 cuss the charging cradle does not work. And at $26. for a new charging kit VS just buying a new one, a maybe a V-2. But
  25. I went cheap and got a Retevis RB38V and learn a lesson. Out of the box the radio is a paper weight. You need to buy a programming cable and get the program off of the company website.
