No problem, I have them sitting in my cart atm. To retain them better, with the screw removed put a small dab of silicone or rtv in the pin side of the screw hole. Use a tooth pick to poke a small hole in the rtv as it dries for the screw.
If you need you could also use a dremel to slot the top of the screw for easier installs.
My local home depot has it in stock, alternately you can find a four pack of thumb screws in M2.5 on Amazon for $6

Cable extender? The feed line of RG-58. It’s only 16’ so loss is not that bad. Not really noticeable. I run one on top of my van, feed it with a 5w HT and haven’t noticed any issues not already present In the radio it’s self.
I use the MeanWell LRS 150-12. Its bare unit, so you have to figure out your own cables and enclosure.

What radio do you have?
I went from a roll up jpole at 30 ft, that on days when conditions were optimal could get into repeaters 45miles away to a higher gain collinear that can get into the same repeaters with out problem when conditions are bad.
Each antenna has its use. Some are better at filling space and some are better at pushing signal at greater ranges.
Have you used the map portion of this site? It does load slow on some machines, but it is pretty much google maps with an overlay
If you switch to “colored streets” or “out doors” the map will respond faster.
I have yet to find a better repository of GMRS repeaters online.
The 70cm is close enough to GMRS frequencies to get a good idea of performance. Many 70cm antennas can be used with out problem on GMRS.
The Nagoya 771g will likely be a good choice. Smiley antenna has a good 465MHz antenna line that is equivalent or better than the Nagoya.
I think the ABBREEs are more of a novelty/“Airsoft” antenna. They work, but I find signal stick, smiley and Nagoya to be better
