I think the 12v refers to the input voltage. I made my own as some of these eliminators don’t provide enough current for transmitting. Check my post history, I think it’s in there somewhere.

When we go on road trips, I’ll check our route against the repeaters mapped on this websites map tool. I’ll enter these in to my radio’s channel memory by local name/repeater name. Usually in order of our departure point to arrival point. Most of the time I’ll put in access permission requests on MYGMRS. Unless you are in a caravan or convoy, I would not expect to hear other simplex users. I used the DB20G, it has plenty of memory for most trips, if you want to save some cash the RT95/AT778uv is good too. RA87 looks interesting if you want more power.

If you use an APRS cable ( Btech or other) you get much better signal transfer. Brief text and location data transfer are allowed on simplex. Check out andFLmsg works well too, more modes, forms etc. Works better too.

This is the way. Apparently encryption and digital are allowed on Murs. The Gotenna uses encrypted digital modes on those frequencies. But all that is very low power and limited range.

Each radio has its own RF signature due to inconsistency in manufacturing and assembly of components. Has something to do with how quickly and cleanly a radio comes up to selected frequency.
