I was just about to donate, but being outside of the coverage area... ? All kidding aside, I just sent them a small donation*. They are probably too far south of the recent EQ coverage zone, but keeping them up and running is still a good idea Make a donation to BARN-R1 *I took the funds from my Donate to NOTARUBICON Fund ?

I don't have experience with the KG-805G, so someone else will have to explain how to program some of these repeaters into it:
-
So are you asking for your wife's car radio or yours? If it is yours and you don't mind hearing others, just program the tone for transmit only on your radio and leave receive tones empty. That way you can scan and hear everybody transmitting, and when you transmit to your wife, your transmit tone will open her receiver.

Any repeaters in the Austin Texas Metro Area
MichaelLAX replied to WD5EMS's topic in General Discussion
See the "wheel" near the upper left hand corner of the map? If you click on this wheel, two options open up: Show Offline Repeaters and Show Stale Repeaters. In my experience some of these are still active, especially "stale" which can just mean the owner has not posted any new comments or modifications to his repeater page in over a year. So I always show them to an inquiring member such as yourself, to give you more data to work with. -
BTW: The FCC regs for MURS do not allow repeaters, so whoever has set it up is doing so in violation of existing regulations and rules.
-
You're much better off getting the proper equipment and location (the higher the better) for a GMRS repeater for one of the 8 channels that seem to not be congested with existing communication in your area. If you are interested, there are others here more experienced in the actual setup and operation of GMRS repeaters.

The distinction between the rules for license-free FRS and license required GMRS, is that FRS radios do not have the ability (by rule and by manufacture) to transmit over duplex repeaters. I guess in theory (without checking further) they would be allowed to use a simplex repeater set up by a GMRS licensee on one of the FRS/GMRS frequencies.

Not knowing how new you are to radios, let me explain the concept of a radio repeater. It is a combination device that includes both a receiver and a transmitter with appropriate electronics to usually share one antenna. It is generally used to increase the available range for many people in a specific geographical area. For example, a private school in Los Angeles has installed a repeater so that its various employees (custodians, teaches, guidance, etc.) can communicate easily with each other using inexpensive handheld radios, known as "walkie-talkies" historically but usually called HTs for hand-heads these days. The HT transmits on one frequency and receives on another, so that whether they are transmitting or receiving they are linked together by the repeater; and can be heard in "real-time." Hence each transmission requires two separate frequencies: one to transmit and the other to receive. In your case, you are hearing what is known as a "simplex repeater." By receiving the transmission, recording it and then retransmitting the content, it is only required to use one frequency, but of course conversations take at least twice as long.

Only 25 more permutations to go! ?

Didn't I just read this post and a response on the MURS subtopic?!?

Is Radioddity DB-20G 20 watt mobile radio good?

So, to summarize, there is no "hear" on the Motorola CDM1550 LS+ without the cable and software?! ?
-
Yes, those are strange Tx choices: it should be the 8 GMRS repeater input channels: 467.550, 575, 600, 625, 650, 675, 700 and 725 and then repeated again. Try the Nagoya NA-771G antenna on your TIDRadio TD-H5, and see if you can hit the repeater from home; try a few locations around your home. If not maybe a rooftop antenna can get you into the Memorial Park 725 repeater.

Yes, as you close in to the repeater, you will be able to pickup traffic on the input from local users. You can then decode which tones the local users are using to gain input to the repeater --> War Driving! Also, if they do not use tones on their reception of the output frequency, they can hear you, if you chose to transmit on the output frequency to inquire about permission to use/membership/tones, etc.
