  1. I believe this suggestion is incorrect and should be ignored by the OP. Although I do not have the Wouxun KG-935g to test in CHIRP, my understanding is that Channels 20 - 22 for this radio are SIMPLEX channels and hence using them to gain access to any repeater will fail. It looks to me that you have correctly programmed your radio for those three repeaters. Take a Ride on the Reading Railroad; do NOT pass GO and do NOT collect $200, ? but as you get closer to these repeaters, you should be able to hear their "repeater tails" when you "kerchunk" your radio, by holding down the transmit button for about 2 seconds and then letting go. When you hear the tail, you can then transmit, ID yourself and ask if anyone is hearing your signal. It is possible, but unlikely, that they have one or more of these repeaters set to no tail, and you would then hear nothing when you kerchunk your radio. PS: You should now delete the DeLand Repeater access Tone from your original post, so that you are not publishing here an unlisted, permission required Tone.
  2. My 11 year old grandson and his friends are all about Rubik's cubes again!!!
  3. What radio are you using? I knew this is a somewhat controversial suggestion, but if you study for the relatively easy Technician Ham Radio exam and get licensed, you will discover so many more Repeater options open to you (as well as even Simplex communications, especially on 2 meters).
  4. ALSO: be sure to Read from your Radio and download and save the default codeplug that comes with your radio, for future reset purposes, if needed.
  5. WELCOME to GMRS and this Forum: What Radio are you programming? Under ToneMode, change to TONE Under Tone, put in the Tone required by your local repeater to gain access.
  6. Are those programmable by Retevis CPS software and/or CHIRP?
  7. All GMRS channels are now FRS channels, too! yes, yes, except for the Repeater transmit channels, but you knew that already!
  8. While FRS HTs are easy to purchase and require no license to use, they are limited to 2 watts on the "high power" channels. The advantage of GMRS HTs are higher power (usually 5 watts) and removable/replaceable antennas for better propagation. The disadvantage of GMRS is that "friends" will have to purchase their own license ($35 for 10 years) while family members are automatically included. Base stations on GMRS can go up to 50 watts on certain channels and have external antennas mounted for height.
  9. At least they were far-sighted enough to use an ultra-low powered FRS channel! ?
  10. Cheaper through Alibaba? But ships from China, yes? Try John at Lets Get Ready, Inc. and see if he can help you: letsgetreadytoday@gmail.com (preferred) or by phone at 213-537-6628 He sold me my TYT-UV88 and high capacity extra battery at a good price and free shipping from LA.
  11. I don't have the 935, but try turning up the squelch; if it is too low, it might be opening up for just noise.
  12. I have to agree with the logic of not using Tones on a travel channel. What's the point of blocking out someone who wants to converse while traveling yet has the wrong Tone or no Tone set?!? Maybe it would be more "exclusive" if we set a "secret" Tone! ?
  13. No, never tried, but which radio and model?
  14. OK: Happy to help, but I am somewhat helping with one arm behind my back as I have never played with the UV9G. Good luck! uv9g.pdf
  15. The offset is 5.0 MHz; as shown in the CHIRP photo above. 444100?!? Not a GMRS frequency. I just downloaded and reviewed the UV-9G manual, and it is not too helpful in this situation. Perhaps you cannot transmit above channel 30 on this HT? Oh, @WRUU653 says Channels 23-54 are preset for Repeaters. In Channel Mode, try entering the CTCSS Tone of 162.2 on one of Channels 23-54, depending upon the frequency of the repeater you are trying to access.
  16. What was his question? How did I answer it? Another reason I stay away from antenna theory questions...
  17. Could you provide the exact link for firmware download; the Miklor link seems to only provide the CPS software download.
  18. I try to stay away from antenna theory questions, but if all else is equal and no ground planes, then 5/8 will give you the best propagation, certainly for an HT (I know not your situation). I used to carry with me a telescoping 2 meter 5/8 for those times that I needed an extra ummph to make it into a repeater, and with my HT my body acted as the ground plane. Needless to say, for 2 meters, 5/8 is quite a length!
  19. Can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Those of us that started with Baofeng upgraded soon after. Get a refund and a real GMRS radio!
  20. And at the same time try two MURS HTs as well! Maybe 20 watt UHF can be beat with 2 watts VHF up to rooftop antennas. But altitude and line of sight will be important here:
