  1. Take a Road Trip with your HT to get nearer the Repeater!
  2. Sorry, Stuart: How about the part where I say:
  3. Allen, did you read the full text of my post?
  4. As I pointed out: It already exists: the Radioditty DB20-G for $105 you plug it into your cigarette lighter, connect an antenna and you're on the air! Get a GMRS license for you and your family for $35, or don't: The only difference is having to say your callsign every now and then! One guy on this Forum even installed one in his Ferrari! Bubble Wrap GMRS Mobile in a Ferrari
  5. I am not sure I understand the point of this thread: Either get an $35 GMRS license for you and your family and use a $100 DB-20G mobile (or some more expensive inferior Midland mobile) or use an FRS HT! What’s the debate?
  6. Plus there’s already enough discord on this Forum! ?
  7. WELCOME! Until someone from your area chimes in... Using the Map function here on myGMRS centered for Warwick and the settings for Show Offline Repeaters and Show Stale Repeaters both turned on, go to the database and check the circled repeaters: For example: AND:
  8. Politics?!? It is the freedom loving Peoples of Ukraine being invaded by the war criminals from Russia! Who on this forum could possibly disagree...
  9. Great price! Just so you know, I don't believe that the cigarette lighter power source is to operate nor transmit on the 79A; only to charge the battery. I still have my two TH-22d's and my two TH-79a's* with a complement of PB-32, 33 and 34 NiCaD, NiMH and Li battery packs (I see you have the BT-9 alkaline replaceable battery case) and accessories (including the K-1 headset that fit under my bicycle helmet for VOX bicycle mobile use - I think it would still work with my Baofeng, if I ever get my knee fixed!). *My original 79a stopped working, so I went on eBay to buy another one used and about a year later I discovered the UV-5Rs and haven't used any of these since (except my Kenwood SMC-33 handheld K-1 mic with my shack-mounted UV-5Rx3 tribander).
  10. Boy, are you in the wrong lane! And thanks for pumping up an 11 month old thread just to do it, too!
  11. WoW: I have never heard of this problem with the DB20-G and now I have heard about it twice! I never hear this sound driving all over Los Angeles and Southern California with my Anytone AT-779UV.

    GMRS cost

Yes, yes, yes... I was responding to Guest Steve's comment that he was bootlegging GMRS use until the price drops!

    GMRS cost

    MURS is FREE!!!!!
  15. Oh, right: Maine! ?
  16. So then, if it is not transmitting on UHF/VHF, one does not need a Ham license to comply with FCC Rules? Reminds me of way back when Skype was first released for those of us using computers to have video calls with friends, family and business contacts. Fry's sold a one-piece "Skype Phone" that worked with WiFi, so that at least audio calls could be made without a computer, back when long distance calling (especially outside of the USA) was still very expensive!
  17. For $69, I purchased the Radioddity RD-5R, which is radio UHF, VHF, GMRS, FRS, MURS, DMR and more. I already have an iPhone, (which yours is not iOS compatible; only Android) and I do not need a hotspot, as I hit 3 DMR repeaters from my easy chair (admittedly connected to my rooftop Comet tribander)! That leaves much savings to buy another cellphone that is Android (when I figure out a need for it) and a hotspot (when I figure out a need for it)! ?
  18. Good choice! After you gain experience using a less expensive model, you can upgrade to another one later!
  19. Anecdotally, from my experience, just using repeaters that have tones listed on this website, I have never made anyone mad! Of course as @gortex2points out for Carrol 725, if the Repeater listing here on myGMRS says Permission Required, then they have clearly expressed a desire that it be private.
  20. That is disappointing: one of the main reasons to pay the RT price is Mac compatibility.
  21. WELCOME! Some never respond; it’s not a high priority for them. My attitude is that if they publish the tones, you are permitted to use them until told otherwise.
  22. RT Systems sells a Mac version.
  23. There is a large contingent of users on this Forum that use and recommend the Radioddity DB20-G (and its clones: Anytone AT-779UV and Retevis Ra-25). While not a handheld per se, it is a mini-mobile type unit that will fit in the palm of your hand. Features: cigarette lighter plug for power 20 watts Comes as GMRS, but easily opened to transmit on MURS, and 2 meters and 70 cms Ham very efficient receiving and transmitting $99 - $109 Many of us have two: one in the car and one at home.
  24. Not his strong suit!
  25. If transposing the vowels of your name were that important to you; you wouldn't have transposed mine! ? DUH!
