  1. If only someone had a YouTube video describing the fallacy of "privacy tones!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sIJv5yyStE&t=38s
  2. Even if @axorlovhad said that each woman's radio was configured to use any tone on that frequency, it would be misleading to assert that the husband could rely on any "privacy" tones.
  3. Yes and both your wife and your girlfriend will be able to hear the others conversation! ?
  4. No and it adds no privacy either.
  5. I have no experience with this particular site for ordering, but two general comments: 1) Isn't the OP aware there are worldwide shortages and supply chain delays caused by The Pandemic; or was he living in a cave?!? and 2) Don't you order with a credit card and hence no funds are tied up! One month later, when the bill comes, if you haven't received a refund, you can challenge the charge with the credit card company and they will immediately issue a credit while they check the facts. Maybe the OP pays for everything with BitCoin!! ?
  6. Oh, right: Senior Moment and only 0.5 on Channels 8-14.
  7. Spare me doing the research: There are FRS radios allowed to transmit over 0.5 watts?
  8. With all due respect, Joel, your statement is only one word away from a classic anti-semitic Trope. When it came to satellite broadcasting, the FCC approved two technologically incompatible systems, the problem of which was only solved when the two companies merged and now offer transparent dual-band radios. It would have been as if in the 1950s, you purchased a TV from RCA that only played NBC programming and then had to buy another TV that played CBS programming...
  9. Yes, the FCC made a big mistake when they approved HD-FM for use in the US. It's peak was about 2009 and I rarely, if ever, see it as a marketing item for inclusion. The problem, of course, is that the FCC wanted a system that was compatible with existing FM analog radios; whereas DAB and DAB+ are not.
  10. Randy tends to be allergic to Ham-jargon! ?
  11. I do not think that is an accurate statement: In the US; perhaps your statement is a hoped-for request. As trademarked and patented by iBiquity, HD-FM and its sub channels requires additional HDR chipsets to function.
  12. Did I mention earlier that the Radioddity RD-5R HT can do GMRS, MURS, 2 meters, 70 cm, analog and DMR? All for only $69! It is basically their GD-77 rebuilt into a UV-5R case, so it uses all the same accessories. And there is an Open Firmware Project on the Internet that expands the capabilities of this handy little radio. One of these days when I have some time to research and tinker, I will install the Open Firmware.
  13. Which radio are you using for 20 watts? As noted above the Radioddity DB-20G a/k/a Anytone AT-779UV a/k/a Retevis Ra-25, all use a cigarette lighter plug for power and transmit up to 20 watts. I use the Anytone in my EV through the cigarette lighter plug.
  14. You missed my point and I am having trouble trying to interpret your latest point. Ignore my comment about Jamming. My point was the 725 GMRS repeater in Los Angeles is full of much of what you complain about, but you point to "Hams" as the culprits; there is plenty of criticism to spread around about how licensed GMRS'ers also operate on the air. I'll let you have the last word on this topic.
  15. You live in Santa Ana, so give a listen to the conversations on GMRS 725 (if the jamming has stopped), and then tell me why you point only to anecdotal complaints about Hams?!
  16. I stand by my original comment: "Those people..."
  17. For his HT maybe, but certainly not a value that should be included, as they are very misleading to a new user.
  18. Why do you include CTCSS' of 88.5 for each channel?
  19. You can actually enjoy GMRS for your purposes without having to throw shade at Hams...
  20. There is no such thing as "type acceptance" for Part 97, ham radio... Onomatopoeia!?! ?
  21. I purchased my first VHS VCR in 1979 for $1,000 One year later, they came out with a new model that had a long cord that plugged into the back and you could hit a button to pause the commercials; for $1,000. One year later, they came out with a new model that had a wireless remote; for $1,000. Now do you think the idea of a wireless remote was too advanced for their engineers in 1979? I think marketing just said: release a new "cool" feature every year so we can sell new models to existing owners! Just a brief note of history...
  22. Yes, his statement is incorrect; once correctly opened up, it will transmit on GMRS, FRS, MURS, 2 meters and 70 cm.
  23. Yes, the software functions the same as Radioddity/Anytone's software; the code plugs are just not interchangeable I see you found a good use for the FUN button! ?
  24. Did they ascertain that both radios were set to wide band mode?
  25. Is that Ricky Dean in your profile photo?!?
