As a lobbying group they represent Hams very well. QST Magazine is very informative

If your housing situation is one that will last for years, be sure to consider different operating plans for the future: For example, maybe 220 MHz (1.25 meters) will become more active in your future and a tri-band antenna once is cheaper than a new additional antenna later. That is what I did and although I still do not do 220 MHz all that often, I am glad I have that capability into the future. I plan to get more active again on 6 meters (both FM and SSB) and HF and my antenna for those bands is a HyGain Vertical. For years I spoke to Hams on HF who were horizontally polarized with a rotatable beam antenna and it always worked fine for me. Maybe if I had a beam to switch to, they would hear me better, but it has always worked cross-polarization. I used to use one rig for all: Yaesu FT-857d - 80 meters to 440 MHz, but now with my Anytone AT-779UV (Radioddity DB-20G), I use that rig for 2 meters, 70 cms and GMRS into my Comet CX-333

Really?!? Are you sure Rich really wants to promote this add-on, or, as indicated, it’s only for the caviar and champagne set?!? ?
-
Other than you happening to know that link because of looking into your crystal ball; I have looked all over the menus and cannot find a public link to that information. Maybe Rich? wants to keep Premium Membership a secret?!? For example, clicking on "$ Premuim" yields nothing.

I see some Members listed as "Premium Members." What is this all about?

Ok, thank you for that information! A better radio than I realized. I had just assumed that H = 20 watts; M = 5 watts and L = 2 watts.

Would you please repeat this paragraph without using words like “low” or “as usual” and instead insert your measured power out. Plus are you set to wide or narrow band?

What brand/model radio are you using?
-
OP says he has the “recommended” cable but has not been more specific than that. i have the GM-30 clone, the Pofung P15UV with the updated Radioddity firmware, per @WyoJoe’s tip, and it programs fine with my FTDI cable. I doubt that the OP got a direct connect cable.
-
Not always: The K-1 USB cable that comes with the Radioddity RD5R DMR HT is a direct connect cable without a chip.

Ignore the + and - for now: There is an unofficial Rag Chew just about every morning around 7:00 AM local time on the 145.290-(no PL) MHz repeater. This is a good time for new and old alike. The laid back nature of the conversation allows for passing of information; and questions to get discussed about as well. This is a really good wake-up call!

You've mentioned Harry S Chung in this context before. Where do you get your information about him and this radio? Google does not bring up much.

FWIW: Since it is a PITA to remove from my car, bring into the shack and reprogram it and then return it to the car, I add new repeaters and other new channels manually and just update the software for those specific "channels" so that my software remains up to date.

Generally, if I do not have a specific reason to upgrade firmware, I wait. In this case, it is not clear to me what each updated version of the firmware adds or subtracts from the radio, so I remain at the versions that came with my two Anytones: 2.28 and 2.29. I do use the updated Radioddity CPS programming software.

I was alerted first to your comment that quoted me, so I only now see that you had a post before that one. I am not an expert at Part 95 certifications and the appropriate stickers placed on the radio. Before now, my knowledge was that these radios were sold in the USA limited to transmitting on GMRS and were Part 95 certified. The knowledge on how to open them up came to me after I purchased mine (it can also be opened up using the programming software, under MODEL). I am surprised to hear that some units sold in the USA are being delivered already opened. But at the end of the day, this is sold as a Part 95 certified GMRS radio in the USA and I have not seen any advertising to the contrary.

Does it actually say "Ham Mode" now? Maybe that is one of the 2.33 improvements. I have 2.28 and 2.29 in my two Anytones and other than GMRS, Australian and Europe, it list specific frequency bands. I have mine set to (136-174)(400-470).
