So if I take my Radioddity RD-5R DMR HT and program it to a GMRS repeater split, say 462.550/467.550, and I transmit to the repeater on 467.550; you are saying that another DMR radio receiving my transmission on the output of 462.550 will understand what I am saying? Interesting!

New to Radioddity DB25-G GMRS Mobile Radio 25W
MichaelLAX replied to Lifegood's question in Technical Discussion
That’s great news!! … for YOU! you can also give Lifegood emergency weather reports when he is driving in an area that his UHF only antenna can’t receive them! -
OK: I understand; let us know how it works out for you!
-
Oh, thanks for the reply; sounds like that would solve the problem! Who does that: you or me and if me, where?
-
That's why "I don't do Windoze" unless I am forced to do so! ?

WELCOME! I looked up the leixen 898 10 watt at Radioddity and it looks like an interesting starter mobile rig for no additional cost! I have two of the Radioddity DB-20G clones (Anytone AT-779UV) which I use in my car and in my shack; and I love them! Do you really need 50 watts?
-
Well, since you will be running Windows, there will be driver issues, especially with the "cheaper" Chinese USB cables that used the counterfeit Prolific chip. I solved the problem by purchasing one of the $22 FTDI USB cables that now works will all of my K-1 style (Kenwood-style) HTs and Windows installs the FTDI driver. What version of Windows do you run in your old version of Parallels? "Old" is usually not a problem with Parallels so long as you are still running the version of Mac OS X that works with that version of Parallels.

Have you given Wayne and Garth Zello access from Aurora Illinois?!? ? Scha-wing!!!

Be sure to give him your phone number, so that when he drives just outside the receiving range of a NOAA station and can't pull it in with his UHF-only antenna, he can call you for the emergency weather reports!! Oh, wait: if he can't receive NOAA, he'll not get cell coverage either! He's up the creek without a paddle, but at least he saved $4! ? -
Out with my new Wouxun 20 watt mobile radio.
MichaelLAX replied to mitzvah's question in Technical Discussion
I am very impressed with my Pofung P15UV HT clone of the Radioddity GM-30, especially when I install one of those "771" type antennas to it (there is a hex screw at the base of the ducky that once loosened will allow you to unscrew off the existing antenna; but you need SMA male, instead of the usual Chinese SMA female). -
I have been a "Mac" person since before there were Macs in 1979 with my Apple ][+ and thereafter! I have used Windows XP in Parallels Desktop ever since the Mac switched to the Intel CPU chip in 2006 (before that I ran Windows XP in Virtual PC). I find that ALL of the codeplug software that I need for my use and I need to help others out with their programming of Wouxun's, DMR, etc. will run in Windows XP. I have Windows 10 installed as well, but I have never found a reason to use it. If you are willing to purchase Parallels (retail $49 for first users), I can direct you with tips on getting Windows XP inexpensively now that it is so hold and how to install it. My Macs could run Windows in the Bootcamp environment natively, but with Parallels running it in emulation, I can have both environments running side by side and use "cut and paste" and/or Chirp running at the same time. Do you mean the Wouxun KG-905G? My understanding is that Chirp which will run on the Mac does not work with Wouxuns. Drivers are the problem with certain USB cables; read this article: Miklor article on cables and drivers

So, Mitzvah, here on myGMRS (a/k/a DietXanadu on YouTube) got frustrated with his Anytone AT-779UV (even with my helpful tips) and met me last week to give it to me as a present! How kind was that?!? So now with 18 watts in the shack up to my tri-band Comet on the roof, I am able to communicate cleanly with the West-facing Chatsworth Peak repeater into Eastern Ventura County and the CREST repeater on Santiago Peak into San Diego and parts south! We should try a scheduled chat some time. Send me another email with "stockjock" in the subject, so I will be able to find your info again in the future. One of the helpful members of CREST gave me this additional information for repeaters for YOU to try: RED Repeater 650 88.5 Coronado (Downtown) Repeater 550 210.7 (travel tone of 141.3) Let me know how those work out for you and our lovely P15UV's! I put my Diamond 771 on my P15 last night and was able to cleanly get into my usual local repeaters from my easy chair. I continue to be impressed with this $28 5 watt clone of the Radioddity GM-30 HT!

Adding a digital DCS Code should be Menu 11: Tx DCS; Click menu again and then use the up and down arrow keys to find your code, then click Menu again. adding a CTCSS Tone should be the same but starting on Menu 12: Tx CTCSS; Scanning for a DCS Tone while someone is transmitting on the Repeater is Menu 31: SEEK and then Menu again will start the scan until it discovers a DCS Tone, during which time the audio will be turned off and it will not come back on until it discovers the DCS Tone. Let us know how it works out for you and have FUN! ALSO, do this so I can tell how up to date is your firmware:

Maybe it is just me, but I always have trouble trying to attached a photo or screenshot. What am I missing?

I see that BuyTwoWayRadios has the new Wouxun KG-XS20G 20 watt mobile for about twice the price. Many say that wouxun is highly regarded in the quality of their radios

That is the antenna but I have the one with the PL-259 connector for the Anytone AT-779UV. I assume the Radioddity has the same connector requirements. tell Bob Yuan I referred you! Dual band means both VHF and UHF: I opened my unit to transmit on the 2 meter VHF and 70 cm UHF Ham bands too.
-
Try the midland antenna as long as you have it. i purchased a $20 dual-band mag-mount from the sellers of my Anytone AT-779UV (Lets Get Ready) here in SoCal and have been very happy with it.
-
His Midland video was first and before he reviewed the Radioddity. I will watch 12.16 later but this disadvantage is less pronounced at home, especially where you live, but annoying if in the future more repeaters use the same frequencies, such as 462.700 in SoCal. Split tone is where the input tone of a Repeater is different than the output tone of that repeater. That makes it more difficult for users to self-discover the input tone and hence the repeater owner might want to keep out the riff-raff! Narrowband is to be avoided at all costs: except where it is mandated by the FCC for the so-called low-power (0.5 watts) interstitial channels 467.xxxx Channels 8-14. He was simplex with his 10 mile away friend. You would need a home Power Supply that provides 12 volts DC with plenty of amps: Randy recommends one at BuyTwoWayRadios.com for about $150. Mine was about $90 when Ham Radio Outlet was still in business in Burbank; now their closest is in Anaheim, and you want to avoid shipping costs as they can be heavy. Check out hamradio.com and the Powerwerx website, too.

Good Youtube Channel for GMRS Info (Including Equipment Reviews)
MichaelLAX replied to mrgmrs's topic in Equipment Reviews
I watch Randy's videos for the entertainment value; even the ones for which I have no interest in the product being reviewed, and his snappy repartee to some of the snarky comments below It is refreshing to see someone intelligently call out the internet-morons! ? -
This video will nail it all for YOU; his favorite viewer! Randy and the Midland MXT275 and then watch: Randy and the Radioddity DB-20G

And for $25, a cup-mount holder will save you drilling holes which is a perfect addition to this units ability to plug into the cigarette lighter for easy install, removal and reinstall. Cup-Holder mount

I don't know much about that radio, but before your ability to refund it expires, be sure that it has the ability to have multiple channels with repeaters on the same frequency but with different tones. This is essential in a mobile unit or HT where you will be operating outside your normal coverage area. For example you drive down to San Diego and want the ability to communicate through various repeaters that reside on the same frequency. Take a look at this $99 retail Anytone AT-779UV a/k/a Radioddity DB-20G (retail $109) for its similar features to what you want but with over 100 channel capability: Radioddity DB-20G on Amazon

I am still waiting for the upcoming Randy posts on: 1) Using your fanless GMRS Mobile to cook your breakfast eggs sunny-side up; and 2) a review of the new Baofeng with its swear-word cancelling feature (did I tell you its only $40?!?)! ? -
I believe you are thinking Sanyo Eneloop, which was bought out by Panasonic. That is the brand I use when there is no lithium battery available for my other needs, but I have never tried them in an HT.
