IT WORKED!
Setting up a new channel in vfo does save.
Not the handiest thing but it works without a computer.

I program "gaps of channels" between different categories of Channels. I'll try to do a screenshot later.
I have gaps already.

Mine is a Retevis from amazon.
Had to buy the cable separate.
It is "unlocked" to a wide range of frequencies.
-
Huh. I have not tried a new channel through VFO mode.
It is "opened up" right now.
I may try putting it back to GMRS too. I hate being limited to 22 simplex channels though.
We are headed to another state this weekend and it would be nice to set up there repeaters on the fly.

I cannot get a tone to save on my Retevis RA-25 that I have entered on the radio.
Tones that I have programed with a computer save fine.
I have read the book a dozen times but it only saves until a power cycle if entered with the radio buttons.
Am I missing something?

Are those programmable by Retevis CPS software and/or CHIRP?
I don't think so. I just used the keypad.

Nice! I am looking forward to a review on the RT49Ps, PartsMan, once you have had a chance to get them on the water.
I'd like to know how many "fars" they will allow you to "talks" across the water.
I will post it here somewhere. So far all I have done is remove the Retevis tones (That was simple enough but a hassle to do 22 times)
and make sure they talk back and forth with my GM-30 in the house.

I guess I have the best wife on this site. Nobody else got radios for Christmas.
It's funny these are the crappiest radios I have at being radios but I am so excited because they are perfect in the right situation.

Yeah but that's more Radiodditty selling through Walmarts site. I doubt you will see one in store.

Or, if you've got a mobile, you can just program the radio to go into Monitor mode the moment you go off-hook. Hang up the mic = PL enabled. Pretty simple. Not sure if there's a PL enable function on any radio once you set a channel to CSQ for receive.
We had that on our farm radios when I was a kid. Very handy.

I am really thinking forward on my everlasting search for the next new toy.
You know n+1. N being the number of radios I have now.
The best setup I have come up with so far is unlocking a radio so that I can set up more than one version of each frequency.
I don't like the idea of a legal gray area just for convenience.
Regular, with a tone, and repeater. It works but my regular channel 17 is 54th in my radio right now.

I almost always tell people to just leave the tone off on receive. That way you’ll receive everything.
I do that in my truck but my wife's car needs the receive tone cause she doesn't want to hear everybody.
Setting a tone works great for our two family coms but I think it would be handy to tap a button and scan without tones.

I have a Retevis RA25, RT98, Midland GXT100, and Radioddity GM-30 so far.
They don't have a tone on\off button.
Are there any radios on the market that do?
-
Is it hot to the touch? Is there a fan not kicking on?
-
I wish my radios had a button to turn the tone on and off quickly.
We have two families using a tone to communicate but I like to scan for anybody else sometimes.
Some off my radios let me set up extra GMRS channels without a tone but not all.
Does anybody offer this feature? Maybe I could reprogram the monitor button to disable tone.

I have a friend that cannot get his DB25 to program as well.
My Retevis RA25 works great.
It's like a DB20 but has a twenty five in the name so it is better.

Have you considered the Radioddity GM-30?

I need a couple radios for my family to stay in contact when we go camping. I have two motorola T200s that are disappointing and dropping out of range too quickly.
Currently looking at the following radios:
Btech GWRS-V1
Radioditty GM-30
Is there a better option available for me? Do one of these stand out in terms of range and ease of use? I'd prefer something that can be charged via USB or 12V DC, but that isn't a dealbreaker.
I would bet those two, and most other new radios in your price range, have the same hardware inside. It basicly comes down to features you like.
Charger type and waterproof rating for instance.

How flat is the signal of a 6db antenna? Does he need to tilt it away from his uphill target?

What about a cross channel repeater?
For example.
Receive on 467.650 or 462.650.
Transmit on 467.550.
Seems like a lighter side of the gray area to me.
