buy a cheap Baofeng DM32 and get your toe's wet. This radio, for the price, is pretty decent.. I'm not a fan of it's encryption, which works but only for short distances but the Analog, DMR, Talk Groups and Zones make it an enjoyable radio to use. The huge battery will eaily get you a few days of use between charges as well.

Your theory is probably correct. AES128 is a little better, ARCA better than both but not holding a candle to the Hytera AES256 . DMR and analog with this radio is very good. I'm not complaing, the DMR32 is still a decent radio and their encryption works, just not to par with higher end radios.

i think you are right.. Couldn't play tonight, my friend with the other radio got drug out to dinner by wify.. ... will try tommorow.. I just found out the one i bought (from RadioDitty) came with a European Charger... Been charging it on my labtop cord and had to dig into the factory unit tonight. One more surprise

2 dud's. I bought one and won one.. It's really not a bad radio in Analog and DMR.. . I'm gonna figure out whats gong on with the encryption, something buggy there and probley doesn't like the highest level where i have it set..
-
the same aa analog,,,(pretty good) the encryption is the issue with this radio... I'm getting ready to try 8 bit to see if thats any different.

I'm not too impressed with Baoefeng's DMR and encryption. Havig both capabilities on my Hytera Radios which i have some very good experience with. These two DM32's. petter out within 2-5 miles in encryption mode. Switch over to non encryption in analog and no problems reacing out 15 miles. My Hytera radios have no issues reaching out 15+ miles in digital so not quite sure what the problem is yet with the Baofengs. Next step is to start testing the power outputs threw the different modes.. I knwo one thing for sure, these DM32's aren't going to spoil anyone. They work great in Anaglog Clarity in Encryption is very good if you are in range to communicate.

i hear you.. My businesss was starting to do that the last two years i was there back in 2022.. Kind of weird, they let people shop on Amazon all day long..
-
this is true.. When i left the industry in 2022 i think the overhead to underground ratio was 55%. Under grounding utilities is happening but not at an alarming rate. Because the cost is 8-25 times higher. Cities and Counties used to create annual underground districts forcing utilities to do this at their cost but utilites got smart and began to aquire their own right of ways.. And that threw a big wrench in these underground districts. Underground is the way to go thugh,, cables arent getting to dug up like they used to because repair cost to the invaders will put some out of business..

Can I use an RJ45 splitter to run dual Hand Mics?
WRUE951 replied to WSJL659's question in Technical Discussion
i said basicity. The MIC connection and cable is using the same physicial RJ45 connector and twisted pair wire found in ethernet systems but with different wiring pinout and for different purposes. Yes, it is a non ethernet connection, we all know ethernet needs to be a managed connections, hence the reason you use switches or routers in a eithernet environment which is more than likley lacking with his set up. I will say, if i wanted to, i could extend the mic on my repeater via Ethernet and a lot of other things. -

WRUE951 replied to WSJL659's question in Technical Discussion
it doesn't make sense. why would you want to split the mic? You can extend a mic using RJ45 extensions.. There are aslo some Bluetooth mic gizmos that you can add. The Mic connection is basicly an eithernet connection to the radio, generally, no you can not split an ethernet signal without feeding it through a switch or router.. -
two different MDC acronyms. I'm referring to Motorola Digital Communicator.. So yes i 'get it' Motorola Data Communications is acceptable. I'll still stick with MAGA though
-
No, using Mobile Digital Communicator (MDC) signaling for voice on GMRS is not legal. The FCC prohibits all digital voice modes, such as DMR, on GMRS channels. MDC, though a form of digital signaling, is part of a digital voice system that does not conform to GMRS regulations.

How to Update DMR-1701 to Open GD77 on Windows 10 pro
WRUE951 replied to WSCN925's question in Technical Discussion
PLEX wrote back and said the problem is caused when PLEX server does Library Scans on the QNAP which takes up unnecessary resources to communicate with QNAP. They have a recent update that solves the issue along with some other security isssues.. Installed the new PLEX server update it it looks like all problems with my COM Ports are now solved with Windows 11. No issues so far connecting my DMR radios to CPM. -
Mobile Digital Communicator. its en encrypted communications which is pretty much illeagle for public use. You can legally play with it on MURS or a business radio license.

How to Update DMR-1701 to Open GD77 on Windows 10 pro
WRUE951 replied to WSCN925's question in Technical Discussion
OK.. I found the problem last night. I run a PLEX server though my QNAP connected to my Windows 11 Box. When i stop Plex services but leave QNAP running i don't have any issues with my com ports and can connnect 100% to my DM32's.. So i know its PLEX and not QBAP. PLEX is somehow screwing with my COM Ports when QNAP is streaming. I have a ticket in with PLEX to see if they can hlep me with this.. I found this by shutting down services one by one.. This was driving me nuts because connecting was spontanious, it worked most of the time but now i now what is causing it. I never ran PLEX or QNAP on my 10 machine so it was alwasy unmolested. So i have a suggeston to the OP having similiar issues. start shuting down servicesa as you try to connect and see if you can find a siilair issue Good luck -

i have some issues with connecting my new DM32 and finding com ports with Winoows 11.. Sometimes it works sometimes nada and thats going through the process of confirming the Com Port as Steve suggested. The radios start to connect than fail before really getting startedd. I'm not having any issues at all on my Windows 10 Labtop.. Even tried unning the software in compatability mode on Windows 11 w/ no luck. For whatever reason, it will evently connect on 11 but takes several attempts sometimes -
Ham Radio 2.0 Coverage of Low-band Channels for GMRS
WRUE951 replied to marcspaz's topic in General Discussion
the only low band repeaters i knew of 'back in they day' were high on top of Mountain peaks and many counties had 3 or 4 in their networks that reached every inch of their boundaries. Than came UHF and many many more mountaintops and even parking garages. -
the price is what blows me away.. I have two of the new Baofengs DM32 radios with 2500 mH and i get an easy 2.5 days out of them, 3-4 in monitor mode. That 5200 on a UV5 has to last an easy week for under 25 bucks..
-
yup.. could be a chrger too. Some people with big linears use chargers for whatever reason.
-
personally, I don't use networked repeaters.. Although i've had plenty of opportunity as there are quite a few out there, I shy from the practice because its not legal.
