  1. I have some Kenwood's and Hytera's and I still grab my favorite Baofangs now and then.. Mostly when I go out Kayaking our out fishing.
  2. You could try a google search, they have a whole bunch of learing videos.
  3. well,, do like most of us here,, get you a Baoufang for a few dollars. It's the cheapest way to learn and their radios are really not that bad. Latter as you go, you will figure out what radio(s) you want to put on your trophy case.
  4. That's asking for a lot here in the Mojave Desert. Happy New Year Leo!
  5. it means that I stood the BTECH GMRS-V2 on a large boulder, steeped back about 200 yards 'give or take', pulled my Armalite AR10 from my truck bed, loaded her with a magazine full of 168 grain Horaday cartriges , carefully zeroed in the crosshairs with my NIGHTFORCE ATACR scope, took a slow deep breath-held it, then gently s q u e z e d the triger on the Armalite. She made a 'BANG' and the BTECH GMRS-V2 suddenly exploded in many pieces. I've never had to worry about that stupid radio since.
  6. Any Hardwaree store will (should) have connectors, CAT5,6 prepared wire and tools to prepare and make connectors. I bought a jar of Cat connectors from HomeDepot about 3 months ago.
  7. welcome to the GMRS Repeater world. Your future repeater should serve your family and visitors to the island well. Good luck and remembers, this group is here to help you if you need it.
  8. BuyTwoWay Radios does a good job at a reasonable price and their turn around is pretty fast. https://www.buytwowayradios.com/prog-mdpx.html
  9. this is the reason i blew the hell out of my BTECH GMRS-V2 with a .308. Worse radio i ever owned. Get you a Baofeng and you'll be much happier.
  10. this thread inspired me to Google Buck Owens song... I Got A Tiber by The Tail.
  11. damn.. what does that battery weight???
  12. My 2014 Electra Glide had a stator alternator. Had to replace it once..
  13. unless you plan on spending your life in that golf cart yacking away plug your radio in and talk away.. My HAM buddy in Lincoln had a HAM rig in his Golf cart. We wold play 18 holes on the Del Web course, him yacking on the radio every time he had a chance, a put to the club for refreshments and the ride home.. No problem. You are gong to have it on the charger every day anyway.. Don't worry about it
  14. Budweiser ??
  15. everything is 'tactical'...
  16. Digital and encryption is hand in hand - but yes, some states opted to be transparent and not encrypt publicly monitored frequencies. . But I'll bet you a dollar and a six pack of Modelo, even in Montana they have one or more encrypted channels to resort to.
  17. I'm familiar with California and you can't scan anything public safety wise in this state. Even school districts went digital here. I've traveled to Oregon, Idaho, Wash, Ariz, Nevada, Colo, Texas and see the same thing.. Most states probly took advantage of the Digital reform grants..
  18. oh common,, you're exaggerating.. When $hit hits the fan, i bet more people will be concerned finding toilet paper
  19. good luck with getting around their digital encryption protocol. Ain't going to happen
  20. I think most public safety groups in this country have established measures against anyone attempting to disrupt communications. Most if not all are now on secure digital platforms. I was in Ridgecrest during the big California Earthquakes in 2019. Knocked out all cell communications and power in most of the city for a few hours.. HAM Radio and GMRS frequencies were very busy and 100% cordial. Most people would have expected KAOS on the airwaves but nothing close. People were using their radios to assist emergieny services and help anyone needing it. The local HAM group posted a story in the local newspaper expressing how well radio communications worked in this disaster. I'm one of those on the side of the fence that 'most' people will come together in great disasters.. You hear the same stories with the huricanes and floods. There are bad apples in every basked but they'll get stomped out pretty quick. JMO
  21. Steve, War does not have rules, it has regulations. and regulations require effective enforcement. Kind of reminds me of the FCC.
  22. One notch up. § 97.405 Station in distress. (b) No provision of these rules prevents the use by a station, in the exceptional circumstances described in paragraph (a)of this section, of any means of radiocommunications at its disposal to assist a station in distress.
