  1. I till have my Galaxy and every once in awhile and most recently i've broke out the 'ole beauty' in my truck and had some fun taking across the country.. Skip is coming back and its only going to get better and better. Don't be surprised when CB makes a big come back.. It won't kill GMRS but will be a fun supplement.
  2. I'm really not a Baofang fan but do own a couple UV-13 Pro's and pretty impressed with it... My GoTo radio is a Hytera HP682 but when i'm out roughing it and don't want to sacrifice my Hytera, i grab my UV-13.. The UV13 is pretty comparable to xtmt&receive quality to the Hytera. Of course the 682 is cleaner on the Analyzer but not by much.. If it wasn't for all the programing options and ease of programing i get with my HP682 the UV-13 would be my goto. The two UV-13's i picked up on Amazon were open and ready..
  3. considering that more and more radios are capable of programing zones and various channels,, it could be very easy to occupy all those channels, especially considering what Marc stated..
  4. Randy is waiting,, eager and willing
  5. i would google "how to direction find with a yagi" They are very effective in pin pointing locations.. You may need an attenuator if you encounter an apartment complex.. You can build one very quickly, google that too.. You'll find it..
  6. very easy to locate,,, If it were me and it was impacting my repeater, i would talk with the homeowner and explain what is going on and offer to help them locate the interfering signal, which is more than likely a walkie talkie in VOX as Steve mentioned.. Be nice, have a civil conversation, don't storm in, parents have no clue what is happening. Good Luck..
  7. Well, if i could get to the door, i would 'knock knock' and have a civil conversation with the parents.... Most of the time that would work, but no guarantee.. You'll never know unless you try..
  8. i would say some bratty kid got a cheap walkie talkie for Christmas.. You should easily be able to pin point the location since its pretty much a dead key.. get ya a short Yagi our build one, you'll find the location pretty easy unless you encounter a gated community..
  9. The tradition of making New Year’s resolutions is a long-standing practice that dates back to ancient times, with roots in the Babylonian festival of Akitu, celebrated around 3,000 to 4,000 years ago. As of 2025, the tradition has evolved, with many people using the start of the year as an opportunity to reflect on their habits and set goals for self-improvement. According to recent reports, only a small percentage of people manage to stick to their resolutions, with around 64% abandoning their goals by the second month of the year. Ancient Origins: The Babylonians made promises to their gods to pay off debts and return borrowed items, marking the beginning of New Year’s resolutions as a way to start the year with a clean slate. Evolution of the Tradition: Over time, the practice of making New Year’s resolutions has moved beyond religious contexts, with people now setting goals for personal improvement, such as eating healthier, exercising more, or saving money. Modern-Day Resolutions: In 2025, popular New Year’s resolutions include spending more time with family and friends, losing weight, exercising more, eating healthier, and saving money, with many people sharing their goals and experiences on social media.
  10. what radio are you programming?? On most radios you can program multiple repeaters even with the same PL codes. Just apply a unique name/identifier to distingush them. YOu'll have a lot more flexibility using the programing software for your radio...
  11. My New Years Resolution is to stop watching moron videos on You Tube.. Even tough i only watch for the weekly chuckle...
  12. Highway speed limit on most highways is 65MPH..... 'When' i drive 65, why does everyone pass me like i'm standing still????
  13. driving south on Hwy 14 passing Jawbone canyon yesterday afternoon, i heard a woman talking to a dude, (presumably the guys wife or girlfriend) saying she didn't forget the beer
  14. i'm thinking he tried to open the Radio and he bricked it, which is easy to do with that radio... But don't toss it, it can be saved.
  15. what is the model on your Browning?
  16. Like Boxcar said, study the radiation patterns for each of the antennas your looking at.. Don't go with the first one someone recommends as the best. It may be the best for them but crap for you.. My home is setting about 2800 feet overlooking a huge desert valley with long range mountains in every direction. I'm setting about 300 feet above the city i live in. I recently got a Laird 4607 7DB Base antenna and found out it lacked the range i had with my prior Hustler G6-450-3. I never looked at the radiation patterns for the antenna before buying. The Laird antenna has a sharp low narrow elevation pattern.. So i was not getting the range out of it. The antenna is meant to be setting on a high mountain top where a downward slope pleases its targets Setting 40' above my house worked good for short range. Long story short, ended up ordering another Hustler, which is 6 weeks backordered now. Gigaparts is a good source to get the antenna pattern information if they sell the specific antenna you are looking at. They are also a good source for information and have reasonable pricing DX Antennas is another good source based on what i hear.. Do your homework, Antenna's are expensive.. Don't be 'that guy' (me) making costly mistakes.
  17. not much to find on the FG4607. Gigaparts sent me this. They said the antenna works great at high elevation. Apparently the Hustler has a wider and lower elevated pattern.. I ended up ordering another Hustler on a christmas deal.. Going back to what worked good for me
  18. I'll somewhat agree with Marc, antenna is the most import piece of in arsenal to get out. But not every antenna is treated equal. Power does help. After testing/playing with four different antennas ranging from $25 bucks to nearly $400, i found the $400 antenna is the poor looser over distance (in my situation)... My little home brew copper j-pole seems to be the big winner.. My old Hustler was a winner as well.. After studying some (very little) antenna theory i'm finding that antenna take off angle has a lot do do with how far and how well it can transmit/receive. The current Laird i use for base has a sharp low angle take off angle and I learned is meant for mountain top applications not 40' above your home. Most of the signal is basically hitting dirt, not elevated air. The J-Pole has a wider pattern where it works better at lower elevations. I think Power helps more with a J-Pole over a higher gain narrower patter antenna. I'm by far not expert in Antenna theory but i am trying to learn more with it..
  19. At the end of the day, more power does help. Thank-you
  20. i have both versions of the J-Pole, both home brew and favor the Copper J-Pole over the Twin Wire J-Pole.. I use the copper j-pole for a portable repeater while camping. Getting the SWR's to perfection on the Copper J-Pole is a major PITA so i came up with a method for adjustability (see pics). Not shown in the attached picture, i had to grind down 1/2 inch on one side on each of the adjusters. The adjusters are made from a modified crimp on copper splice (Home Depot) and removing the internal rubber gaskets, cutting the splice in half then tapping for the set screws. It works great, i'm able to get 1:2 - 1:3 on my repeater channels (18)... The Copper J-Pole has talked roughly 90 miles, I've gotten about 60 with the Twin Lead version.. Both better than my home Base Laird FG-4607 and i can't figure out why on that one..
  21. i run a copper J-Pole (Home Brew) on my portable Maxon repeater (40W), in my RV mostly up in the Sierras near and around Crawley Lake and Mammoth. The last weekend of last Sept i talked with Terry on his base station in Tonapah while relaxing at my RV , about a 90 mile hop. When i switched to medium power he lost my contact. On high power he hears me loud and clear. So im gong to debunk those that say power does not mater. Yes it does!! And BTW,, the copper J-Pole is a nice antenna, they perform well.. KB9VBR gave me some tips on getting one to work aside from what the calculations tell you..
  22. My favorite HAM HT is the Hytera HP782. And i even have GMRS frequencies plugged so i can 'listen' in... Of course, i grap my Baufang if i want to XTMT...
  23. Opinions and Bias is two different matters.............In other words, why listen to someone else's opinion forced upon me.. NOPE!
  24. Yup and I agree.. Like turning the Ch away from something you dont want to hear, the same applies to tunning into something your going to disagree with.. Pretty much why i never watch CNN or FOX... Saves on blood pressure pill.
