I'd bet half the traffic you hear in any large metropolitan area is not even licensed. Particularly in the Las Angeles basin area. And i would even stretch that to include actual repeaters. I'm even hearing a lot of business using GMRS now, like Motels, Grocery Outlets, Construction Co, Landscaping Companies.. I've had a few landscaping companies try to use my repeater, they are hard to get rid of, they don't care. But when you learn who they are and get in touch with their owner and educate them on the FCC laws they will disappear. Self Policing the GMRS repeater Bands and getting harder and harder, sometimes i just turn it off. Thank goodness for the remote access.

I dont know about being easy.. some folks have a hard time signing up.. I must have helped a dozen people last year navigating the web site(s) to get their license.. Hell, passing the technician test is almost as easy. - Just saying

yup, i just made the comment in relation to privacy (somewhat)

Voice Scramblers works well, especially in the Hytera radios.. But problem with that, everyone needs a like radio. Other problem, if anyone worries about it. FCC Illegal for GMRS. But still quite a few still use it.

ICS controller can be configured to turn up/down via HTML or DTMF. The Bridgecom you refer to is most likely set up with an ICS controller they are plug an play for Bridgecom,, Arcom may work as well but i don't think Arcom can switch via HTML

its actually worse than CB in the LA Basin.. Most of it does disappear once you get over Cajon Pass

very busy, people purposely stepping all over everyone, including the repeater channels.. lots (LOTS) of profane language, Get over the valley and it disappears back to normal life except the two guys on ch 19, i swear, they start yapping at 5:00 a.m. and keep going.. They must have a good repeater site, i can hear them in L.A. and Barstow. I'm just spoiled being in the desert.

if you want to hear a complete zoo,, scan the GMRS channels driving between Las Angels and San Berdino. I don't even bother anymore..

My last SKS was taken from me at a Club Shooting range back in 1995.. The gun fired full auto on its own.. Fired off 4 rounds in one trigger pull. Range master had the club gun dealer inspect the rifle, whole trigger mechanism was defective was going to cost me $130 to fix.. I gave the rifle up. -

i read a story awhile back on X where the Ukraine Military's choice tactical radio was the Baofeng Hand radio.. And there was all kinds of conspiracy pings suggesting the Baofeng's were being remotely turned off. Several pictures posted showing the Ukraine army guys with Baofengs on their hips. -
Yea, they did offer that, but signing up required a credit card.__ even though it’s free for a year

You know what really erks me, Getting notices from health providers or credit card companies, (I’ve gotten two in last 10 months) advising you they experienced a data breach and your personal information, including name, address, sss Number, Driver Lic Number was among information breached, And all they do is say “sorry”.

you used to be able to use Excel (the newest version) to pull the data from the web site.. But that is no longer working. I agree with you that the site owner should use the KMZ option to the his paid service.. He would easily increase his paid service subscriptions by doing so. I did offer to help him do this for no fees. Even offered to give him the template i built to get the data into KMZ/KML format, he never answered my message. The template i built would allow him to make KML/KMZ for all states. I hope the sample of data i sent will entice him to get this going. In the mean time another web site has reached out to me asking to help them build KMZ files for GMRS. I would rather help this site get it going but we'll see what happens.

Line of site, no obstructions, is the key to GMRS frequencies.. i.e. There is a repeater near me that sits on a ideal location,, it sits at 4,500 feet It has line of site advantage in 300 degrees that can and has reached over 100 miles. Location, location, location..,

two sets of info,, As the latter suggested, program both to see which tones are correct. Some radios will auto detect the tones for you.. CTCSS and DPL are a complete different set of tones. The difference is that CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) uses continuous tones below 300 Hz whereas DCS (Digital-Coded System) uses digital data or encoded-words which are very unique and all encoded words can be used on the same channel without interference. Transmitter un-keys the code at the end of transmission and just 0.5 seconds before the transmission which indicates the radio at 134 Hz tone which serves as turn off code. The FM deviation level should be in the range of 500 Hz to 800 Hz in DCS technolog.

A signal strength and readability report is a standardized format for reporting the strength of the radio signal and the readability (quality) of the radiotelephone (voice) or radiotelegraph (Morse code) signal transmitted by another station as received at the reporting station's location and by their radio station equipment. These report formats are usually designed for only one communications mode or the other, although a few are used for both telegraph and voice communications. All but one of these signal report formats involve the transmission of numbers.
