  1. Mine with GPS are 5RH Pro not 5RM. I do have K5+ which are the 5RM type but do not have GPS and those have the red letter menu like GM-5RH. I have not done much testing with the 5RH's, except making sure GPS worked and they do receive transmissions. I've been using one K5+ for a few months and it receives good; haven't made a point of testing TX distance. My K5+'s don't have any special features that I use except airband RX. All the 5RM/5RH type screens are virtually invisible out in the sun. So I made a cheapo shading device that works (most anything will do). (I may not be here much if at all anymore, so good luck whatever you decide.)
  2. There aren't any private repeaters, just ones the owners don't want other people using. All transmissions are public.
  3. Shouldn't repeater output tones always be published? Seems like we should be able to easily ID what we're hearing (it's as much our frequency as the repeater owner's). I am familiar with tone scan, but that just sort of proves the point anyway. Voice ID instead of CW would help too.
  4. Baofeng (not BTech) has the 5RH Pro GPS that will send coordinates, even automatically respond to request if configured to. I don't know what the format of the transmission is though (can't test).
  5. Me and my ancestors have been in the Southeast since those pesky pilgrims stepped on that rock up North. And I have no dadblame clue where you are except I remember mentions of Charleston and GA. [But I can find out if I want to.] ECONUS might almost spell East coast of US, but the N doesn't fit. Or is it Eastern Continental US?
  6. That's the 5RH Pro GPS menu, probably the same as what you have ordered.
  7. You got it! It's Menu 45. The menu choices I mentioned above are for the 5RH Pro, which I should have realized (it doesn't have the one overall numbered list like the GM5RH). I've edited the earlier post.
  8. I gave the menu choices for that part (were wrong now fixed). For the back label, take the battery off. There is another one too, hold down 8 while turning on.
  9. OK I'll play: Mine were 2 to a Baofeng branded blue-green box designed with dividers that support that (box was wrapped in green plastic). But, the numbers on the back of the radio and in Menu 45 mean more than the box.
  10. have to keep it clean - there is a rule against bad words p.s. some repeater owners do request (require?) the standard international phonetics
  11. If that's the 5RH Pro GPS, it has a different menu display, white background, organized into categories (some pros and cons). For GPS to work, you may need GNSS turned on (I did) and be in a wide open area. It gets lat/long OK (8-9 satellites), off by ~100 ft on elevation.
  12. I agree, but I was checking because I think if it allowed programming by the included USB-C cable that would be mentioned.
  13. Regarding 220, being in the range 136-260 that was from the last page of Chapter 1, section 1.2 Main features. But in Appendix C it says 136-173.99. UPDATE: 136-260 seems to be correct as it allows entry and scanning (no signal now to test receive). I did not find any mention in the manual of programming with software and cable.
  14. Have you tried using the USB-C charging cable for programming? I'd be surprised if programming worked through the battery port. There was no K-1 programming cable included with mine and no USB-C port on the radio. I haven't tried programming in extra channels yet. The manual says it can receive 220MHz but I'd need more 220 antennas because neither these nor my 5RH-Pro-GPS ones came with those (K5+ did but it actually TXs although low power). What do you think of the sound? Sounds like a cardboard box to me. It's understandable, just sounds cheap. Baofeng needs to spend a few pennies and put good speakers in these otherwise solid radios.
  15. 709, if you keep "All Activity" open in a separate tab you will see updates there.
