So in other words, even though you may not support doing it, you don't see any issues arising from it. If I add a 10 to it, it may provide reasonable totality of circumstances for me to use it.
-
Well that's a B Buster. I wonder why 10 codes were permissible and others weren't, even though 10 codes have changed over time on certain codes? Idk
-
So 10 codes ARE allowed but others are not? As in I cannot make my own code? Thats at least what I obtained from that.
-
I know how tones work. By 'drowning out others' I meant I don't hear them. I know people with no tone can hear what I say, and those with the same tone as well. With 10 codes... it says they are permissible? As in 10 codes such as 10-4(understood) are allowed?
-
Hey there, I cannot find any articles on this topic. Is it allowed on GMRS to have 'coded talk'. For example, I'm simplexing my friend who has his own radio, we're on our tone we selected so we drown out other people talking. There's no offsets so we know for a fact it's simplex only. Now let's say I write up a list of codes... code 1 is I'm en route to your location, code 2 is I'm stopped, code 3 is I'm broke down, code 4 is understood/copy, etc etc. We both have a copy of the codes and no one knows what the codes mean except us, is that allowed? And please do not mention what other people PREFER. Like groups or personal people. I don't care about preference, I care about regulation and law (Wed never break the fcc rules here)

Bottom Line for UV-5G Memory Programming
WRVG593 replied to sjmahler's question in Technical Discussion
I am not the most interesting guy (I'm certainly not NotARubicon lol) and this is technically for the UV5R, but it is exactly the same. But instead of clicking (Baofeng-UV5R) click (Radioddity-UV5G). Even though this thing is a baofeng radio, the UV5G/UV5X is actually not listed in the baofeng section of chirp. It'll say UV5X but it's actually a whole different radio. -
Yeah? I keep roughly 4 radios in my truck. 1 MXT500 (50W I use for repeaters or long distance simplex), 1 CB handheld to com with truckers, 1 UV5G for Handheld GMRS use (it dual monitors 16 and 20), and a UV5R I keep in the bottom of the truck for emergency use in case I have no signal on my phone (I have it programmed to every REACT/SAR Repeater and frequency in Ohio, KY, and WV)
-
When using chirp, it may sometimes bug out channel mode. Wipe the radio, program it again. Set tones as cross tones and make both the same PL. Set the offset 005.000 and try again. This has happened to me once and this worked.

Bottom Line for UV-5G Memory Programming
WRVG593 replied to sjmahler's question in Technical Discussion
Yes it can! I have a video on YT showing it... it's realistically the same radio as a UV5R, just locked go GMRS frequencies. There's 2 ways to go about it and be able to TX on it. 1. Use chirp. Download the daily installer and update it. Use the Radioddity UV5G option, not the baofeng UV5G option. Use a Cross tone with a Rx and Tx tone of the same for the repeater; then set an offset of 5 mhz. Remember, these have to be set on channels 31-127. Any other channel and it will default back the original channels. You can still name 1-30 though! You don't have to look at the ugly "REPETR8" haha. 2. Utilize the save feature while in channel mode. Sounds funny becuase it is. So let's say you have two GMRS Repeater on Channel 15/550. One of them has a tone if 100(A), the other 123(B). Set channel 23 (REPETR1)[A] To PL 100. Save [A] to channel 31. This will copy all data to channel 31. Effectively, channel 31 is now the exact same as channel 23[A]. Now change channel 31s tone to 123[B] and boom. You have that Repeater avaliable. -
Hey there! Been a GMRS user for about 6 months, and finally got a 50 Watt Midland MXT500. While in the truck I'm pushing 45 watts on the low end and 47 at the high. I'm impressed with it. I talked further today than I could with the repeater in the area, simplexing around an entire forested hill! 15 miles was nothing! Anyhow... As you can tell by the title of the post, I'm wondering if GMRS skips like CB does... and if it does, to what extent? A 4 watt CB can skips for miles and miles, what can a 50 watt GMRS do, if anything? How far? How often? The conditions it requires? What are the chances I'll get further out than the "desired" range? I'm not looking to be muddock. Just wondering becuase I very commonly simplex with people on 16/575 and 20/675 as I even have stickers on the back of the truck designating the channel I listen on, and would love to know who else can hear me. Thanks!

So it happens outside ny neighborhood, all the way 30 minutes to work on 275 (I live in ohio)

Yellow dot is the only "dot" frequency that does this. Channels 1, 13, and 18 buzz around me (462.562)(467.700)(462.625) 20230207_171043.mp4

Okay let me reiterate in a different way. I understand the bands now. I guess my actual question then would be between 144 and 148 can I just transmit simplex and call it a day? Or do I have to be on a recognized repeater? Same with 420-450 (except gmrs/frs).

Hi there, I recently gotten into radios and wanted to get into amatuer radio. My question is if you use let's say, 130 mhz to 220 mhz, or 400 to 520, can you use any of the frequencies not currently in use? For example, if I plug in the frequency 158.452 can I just transmit assuming there's no other traffic (ems, police, fire, etc.) Or are there very specific frequencies that I can transmit on (repeaters only) or can I simplex transmit to people? I know it sounds funny but I'm really interested in amatuer and just haven't started studying yet. I love learning from this site and would appreciate all help.

When you get a replacement etc us know!
-
Sure will. Give me probably till tommorrow. Will post soon!

That's what happens generally when I'm scanning though VHF and UHF freq, but never on Yellow dot, or FRS Channel 1, 3, and 18.

I'll try to get them tonight. Report later
-
It's possible. The reason I say this is because it happens at the end if the street with a stop light, and right next to a warehouse after I get on the highway
-
It's just weird because it is the same spots at all times, and it's a constant buzz. Not randomly. Like at the end of my street, yellow dot will buzz 24 7.
-
I appreciate jt. I have the 48 channel version of the MT2000, and the HT1000 is a 16 channel, 3 zone radio. The MT2000 is a 48 channel 3 zone radio
-
I understand that yellow dot is not a gmrs frequency. Only asking for recieving purposes, as my radio receives FRS/GMRS 1-22, all stars and dots, MURS, and extra things such as local police and fire
-
So I have a couple of radios and was wondering why all of them seem to have the same issue. Amongst all of these radios, the same frequencies in my area decide to 'buzz'. I will list the frequencies now. FRS/GMRS Channel 1- 462.562 FRS/GMRS Channel 13- 467.687 FRS/GMRS Channel 18- 426.625 Yellow Dot - 464.550 Does anyone understand what this could be?
