I didn't personally look. I had a shop that deals specifically with amplifiers and radios that has been very trustworthy for a while now.

Well. It took my 2 hours, but I got it completely programmed to my needs. I have all FRS/GMRS channels, local repeaters, business bands (Silver star, red dot, etc), MURS, police and EMS, and WX/NOAA stations. Roughly over 100 channels. CHIRP and Anytone software didn't work for it. But... you can hand program in names and all! I love this little thing. To set up a single channel and name it takes all of 2 minutes. Love it!

2 if them were unknown but started immediately. 1 of them lasted for about 5 days and the RF Chip failed

I've had nothing but great things from "baofeng". They have made radios that suit my needs for a while now. I have a couple motorola and a couple if baofengs... for my needs they work the same. The "BTECH" side of it, I've had horrible experienced with. I've had 4 baofeng radios and they're all great, I've had 3 baofeng amps and they're all horrible. And the motorolas are great too. Heck even the AnyTone was better than the btechs

The version was correct. And the radio should definitely have been okay. The UV5G definitely didn't overload it. Heck, it's made by practically the same company.
-
The first I chalked up to being a dud. The second we took apart and the RF Chip was fried. But both of them put out 0.1W. Not to mention someone else I know has one, and just yesterday it broke. So that's 3 in a row!!!

I've had 2 break on me in 3 months!

I haven't done too much research on the GMRS Pro... does it decode digital radio that yoy otherwise wouldn't hear on an analog? Is it Dual Band Recieve?

Hey there. I found some old MT2000 and HT1000 radios in a group I'm in. It's programmed to the repeaters in the area and that's it. There's roughly 16 channels unused (on the Mt2000, ht1000 is completely filled) That being said, I'm completely lost on how to program these things. I'm a CCR user, and this is the first Motorola I've ever had. I want to edit the names shown on the MT2000, as well as add/edit channels. (Same might go for channels with HT1000) I don't know what programming cable is the right one, where the programming software is, how to do it, etc. If anyone here can help, it would be awesome! p.s I also posted this in technical. need any and all help!

What models? I've looked for a couple. Mostly the gmrs pro dmr

When I scan frequencies I never add a tone to them just so I can hear it all. I can find the tone after I hear it if I want to talk back.
-
We all know there's no main GMRS channel. There's no emergency channel, and no travel channel. Do your groups you have I'm your area have their own designated channel? What about your family? People who just drive by? My group has no set emergency channel, just a repeater that covers roughly 80 miles and another that covers roughly 40. As a general rule, you can usually find travel channel on 1,16, and 22. My family for simplex use does CH22/462.725 just because not many people use it. What do you all use?
-
So there's NO way even during a forest fire that people could use a Ham Radio to talk on GMRS in the event to be saved? There's no statue in the FCC rules allowing and turning their cheek to this?

These steps helped me when I did it to troubleshoot. 1. Re-download daily installer 2. Ensure coms (most likely com3) and setting is right (baofeng uv5r) 3. Upload from radio to create a new file 4. Edit the file from the new file that was created from uploading to computer. 4b. Ensure tones match. My simplest answer is to set TX tone to access your repeater and leave the Rx tone blank to just relieve it all. Make sure it says tone and not cross. Chirp is finicky and wether it's a Mac or windows can sometimes change just by clicking off the menu items. Triple check your work. Sometimes you may have accidentally set the frequency .012 away and that's enough to change the whole thing. 5. Upload to radio. 6. Enjoy Let me know if this helped at all

Technically per the FCC, are we not able to use any radio on any frequency in the case of an emergency or life saving event? That is what I mean by emergency amatuer that can broadcast on those channels. I know they can't just do it just because.
-
Hey there, I was thinking about this while sitting at work. Obviously half watt radios are not going to get very far, and an "emergency amatuer radio" that Transmits 100 watts on GMRS frequency is going to reach much farther. And line of sight has the biggest factor when it comes to the GMRS channels especially. But let's say a clear highway, completely straight, or even a field completely flat, was to he utilized. How far does that Half Watt Walmart FRS Radio transmit? 1 mile? 3 miles for the horizon? 35 miles to a mountain? How far does the 25 watt go? 50? How much does it matter for How much juice you're getting? It's not like amatuer where you get 1500 watts. Does 5-50 really change alot?

I kind of like there's no names repeaters. Although there's something that would be nice about a single travel/trucker channel

When it comes to communities... GMRS by far has the best. I've only seen pleasant and helpful people in the GMRS community. It's more easy going than Ham, MURS only has a few channels and basically no one in it, and FRS is basically incorporated into GMRS. The HAM community seems focused on keeping certain people out and creating contacts with people. Also the stereotype is there. Ham is very clipboard and khaki, where GMRS is jeans and TShirts. CB is a whole different world where basically anything goes. And as good and fun as it sounds, not as many people use it as they used to, and the equipment can be clunky. Murs dosent really have a community outside of farm use and hiking. Basically in my opinion, GMRS is a great middle ground between all the services, and has a community of people who care. If anyone disagrees I would love to know why, just because I like listening to all forms of radio.

@wayovertherejust so I'm not confused... are these repeaters linked via the internet? Are they linked to the point of a person in florida is communicating 200 miles away? A man in Cali 200 miles etc. I'm not sure exactly how the linked GMRS repeaters work

I use CCRs... but yes I put the strap on, as well as the belt clip (it's optional for my radio) and it is almost never used. But the one or two times I do, it's super useful. If I climb a tree while camping, or hiking, and I cannot have it in my pocket, belt, shirt, etc, having it on my wrist tight makes it super useful. Sometimes having the ugly thing hanging off of it being used only once or twice can be worth it. Better to have and not need.

Post pics of your GMRS (or even Ham...) setup! Some people have goofy setups, some have over the top amazing ones. I have friends who told me mine looks a little off haha. I have a bit more equipment now including an antenna i built on top of the house (sits above the chimney). Show your Base (or mobile) stations!

Has anyone here ever bought the BTECH GMRS-50X1 50W GMRS mobile/base radio? Is it worth it? What are the pros? The cons? I know Randy's already done a video on it, but I need more than just one opinion (even if his means the most lol). Some people have great luck with these Chinese radios. Some people hate them. How's the 200+ channels? Can I TX on them? They say I can't but the radiodity UV5G said the same thing and we got it figured out. Can i really only transmit on i repeaters pre-saved? Thanks for all answers. Don't be a turd burglar, if you have nothing to add other than "CCR" no need to respond lol. From what I can tell (which I'm a simpleton so stand by) the pros are as follows (in my eyes) - WB/NB switch, FM Radio 65mhz-108, decent looking display with customizable colors, 4 channel Standby, 200+ programmable channels. Cons from what I can tell (unless I'm being dumb, very possible) - Only 8 channels you can program as repeaters that you can't make additional channels repeaters to TX on? Possibly not able to transmit out 462.xxx-467.xxx for 'emergency use'. Cheap plug for power and microphone. Plastic looking mic. Let me know your experience with it!

Self identify that's funny. I have a cheap UV5R that sits in my car loaded up with GMRS, HAM, And MURS frequencies in case I cannot reach anyone in an emergency. As the fcc says, using a part unacceptable radio is okay in an emergency (wink)
