Please forgive my fox paw. I'm a retired water treatment consultant with too many hobbies so I need to add one more. Radio wise, I started in the military, then used them in the ship building and oil industries. Along the way I did the CB thing until it became populated with too many "individuals". Outdoor wise, I've been a hunter/shooter and everything that goes with it since I was a kid in the fifties. Got into off roading in the 80's when I bought my Jeep Scrambler. That's enough stuff for now. Expand Welcome! Quote

Been a radio dork since about 1978 (Shortwave, CB, Ham, and most recently GMRS). Besides radios, I also own a Jeep JK, and like to visit my local gun range on occasion to blow the pocket lint out of the chamber so to speak. Oh, I am also a notarubicon subscriber (an honor to be reprimanded by the queen himself!) That's all for now! AdmiralCochrane and SteveShannon 2 Quote

FishinGary Posted Saturday at 07:22 AM Report Posted Saturday at 07:22 AM Guess I completely missed the welcome thread, too. Been around for a bit. Mostly lurking. Welcome everyone and hello. Been into monitoring and radio in general for what seems like forever. Scanning, shortwave, etc. GMRS late last year and amateur radio earlier this year. Was in broadcasting for awhile, too (mostly the 90s). WRUU653 and SteveShannon 2 Quote
jjlava Posted Tuesday at 10:16 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 10:16 PM Hi, I'm Jackie. I've been a radio fan for years and have listened to scanners, shortwave and utility radio. I've also been an amateur radio operator for over 20 years but off the air for a good portion of that time due to antenna and space restrictions. I just got my GMRS license a couple of months ago; I thought it would be a good idea to add one more communication method to my collection. I can't have an outdoor antenna of any kind where I live so I'm using some handheld radios at the moment. WRUU653 1 Quote

WSGN731 Posted yesterday at 11:16 AM Report Posted yesterday at 11:16 AM Hi, new here, I recently bought a handheld radio for the Jeep. Now thinking of getting a mobile for it. Found myGMRS on a YouTube vid. Quote
BoxCar Posted yesterday at 11:24 AM Report Posted yesterday at 11:24 AM @WSGN731Welcome to the zoo! Before you ask, the best radio to install in your Jeep is the one that fits your requirements best. That, and there are as many recommendations for antennas as there are antennas, WSGN731 1 Quote

Small, simple, lightweight, only 20 watts but it has a button marked “FUN”. And it’s often on sale for less than $90. I bought two of them. If I wanted a full 50 watts I’d look at the Wouxun kg1000g. It’s not inexpensive but only a couple people have ever complained about it. Quote
