New guy here. Was an RTO many moons ago on a PRC-77 and an early SINCGARS and don't remember jack sh@# about radios. Like many I grabbed up a couple of Boofwangs and have expanded to a few other GMRS types. I appreciate the information contained in the forums and the access to the repeater map. Thanks for the invaluable resource!

New GMRS user here in San Antonio, TX.  Looking to learn more as I just got started with this hobby.  Already have 3 different radios and am looking to get comfortable with using them so I can communicate in case of a weather emergency.

The first thing you will learn is that the FRS channels are all GMRS channels and the GMRS channels are all FRS channels.

But, that guy in those videos say there is a slight difference between the two radio services or was he fibbin?

Hello all! New user here. Still attempting to piece together all the information out there on GMRS radios and have it all make sense at the same time. I think I've reprogrammed my radio (Baofeng UV-9G) at least five times in the past 10 days, but that activity has actually helped me understand more how these devices work. I appreciate all the effort that has been put into this site to help newbies like myself navigate the GMRS world.

Hello & Good morning from OH. Im a super newbie lol okay maybe not that  new but not far off..lol.

I am strictly focusing on GMRS, while peeking at the book I bought for ham. I picked up a couple of h3 tidradios, and also picked up 2 of the good brand 15 inch whip antennas. I also have a few of the Bearofang ..spelling on that isn't correct, I am going to pick up another 2 pack of the Tidradios here soon and I really like them and are pretty easy to program. Sitting back reading snd listening.

Welcome!!!

Welcome.  You've picked a great place for info.

If you haven't already, I always encourage new people to use the search bar here.  A lot of basic questions have been asked and answered, and you might just find what you're looking for without having to start a new thread.

There's a ton of info here as you may have noticed.  And it's a great community of regulars to bounce ideas off and have a great time.

My name's Jake.  See ya around.

Just joined, got my license recently. Picked up a BTech UV-Pro with the intent on taking it with me on dual sport-adventure style motorcycling. Ton of areas around me are cell phone dead zones.

Found and connected to my first repeater successfully today also...

Welcome to the world of GMRS, what is dual sport-adventure style motorcycling pray tell?  I've sone a bit of motocross type stuff back in the day, as well as some enduro riding.  These days my off road adventures are in a 4WD truck and GMRS has been a great asset to have along when out in the Toolies alone or in groups.

Gravel forest roads and off road trail riding with the intent to just explore the scenery. Bikes are typically lightweight small-bore or up to 1000cc but are off-road biased. Tons of good riding in central PA with sparse to non-existant cell coverage.

Check out https://ridebdr.com/bdr-routes/ for some great examples.

And here in the mountains of Montana it’s 34°, heading to 39° as the high today.  It’ll be in the low 40° range tomorrow.

Just joined earlier today and already found some interesting reads.  Good to see a forum with recent activity.  Just resurrecting this old hobby after around 50 years of doing silly things like working and raising a family.  Currently residing in Ypsilanti, MI and happy to report there is some activity here.  Since I picked up a few radios it has been between 20 and 35°F and no fun being outside testing distance.  Hopefully find an opportunity before too long.  Having fun just catching up with the technology.
