If anyone is interested in a long distance simplex challenge.

PROJECT LONGHAUL

The purpose is to get more people interested in GMRS and get a message from Long Island to California, possibly NotaRubicon. (currently not aware of this project)

This will be a massive nationwide undertaking , but if we can pull this off, GMRS operators will not be looked down from sad Hams. We have a purpose!!

We will have two paths to confirm the message in the end then send the message back. This has never been done before. Hopefully we will get noticed by the FCC, news outlets or whoever wants to join and be a part of something so extraordinary!

Program your radios with 462.675 PL 141.3, and call out on simplex at 8PM every night until you get a contact, then spread the word of the purpose and cause.

Callout every day: 11AM, 2PM, 8PM, 11PM, 2AM, 8AM

Call out message: This is <call-sign> calling any station for Project LongHaul, I repeat: This is <call-sign> calling any station for Project LongHaul, please reply.

Good Luck!!

I'm not confident that the attitude of sad Hams towards GMRS users (or vice-versa) will change.  No need to impress sad Hams.

Good luck with your endeavor!

I really don't think it will change anyone's mind about anything, and honestly most hams don't even think about 'looking down' on anyone (except CB, ugh). Many hams, myself and about half the members of my amateur radio club included, are also GMRS licensed.

We recognize each radio service is different and has it's own niche. GMRS serves local contacts in a personal context, keeping in touch with their families, serves people engaged in activities where close-range commo is needed and seems to engage those who don't care about radio technicalities. Ham radio serves those looking for long distance capabilities, solid emergency communications and those to whom electronics and radio theory is interesting.

Making it a competition or trying to make either radio service something it isn't simply doesn't make sense. If you want to use GMRS for GMRS purposes, great, that's what it's for. If you want ham radio capability or if you feel like there is some sort of rivalry, be a ham. It's not that hard and a lot of the equipment is the same.

I have a CB radio, a marine VHF radio (I have a boat), a GMRS license and radios, a ham license and radios, a GROL+radar endorsement and a GMDSS operator's license. Each radio service has a specific purpose and the only service I see people trying to make it something it isn't is GMRS for some reason.

I watched the video and it's still unclear of the purpose other than just to see if it can be done.  At least the video lets you know that times are based on Eastern time zone.

Personally, it seems to me that this is an attempt to create a nationwide simplex network. Possibly a club or some kind of an organization.  The video mentions setting up heads of each state and or city.  All under the guise of a fun experiment.  Seems like somebody always wants to be in charge of it all. Next thing you'll know, each channel will be designated for "club" use only.

If this "project" gains the traction that he wants,  it will render channel 20 useless during these times.  Imagine every GMRS user keying up at the same time on the same channel.  Sounds like a Jamming Cluster-F to me.

My opinion, leave GMRS alone.

Just in case this really is just a fun game of telephone, I'm joining in.  I'm curious to see what happens.  I doubt the path of travel for the message will reach me since I'm kinda in a remote area when it comes to GMRS usage.

Bottom line, the idea is just weird enough to get my attention.

Totally agree.

The idea of getting enough simplex users together to relay a message across country seems like a crazy experiment.   As long as the intentions are innocent, I'll play.

Keep in mind, MANY So-called "SAD HAMS" Are Also Licensed for Gmrs too ... Making us SAD GMRS Users ! 🤪

Hopefully someone documents the actual path, call sign to call sign, as the message traverses the country.

There is a website and facebook page set up for it.  I've been checking on it from time to time to see how it's all set up.  Still seems vague to me.  Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

This kinda goes along with my previous suspicion.   A nationwide club/organization centered on one channel?  The vague "purpose" gets a little clearer with this Facebook post.

Joe keeps mentioning Randy's channel, hoping that he can be the end point of this relayed message.

@OffRoaderX, have you caught wind of this yet? Do you have any thoughts to share about Project Longhaul?

I've been keeping my eye on this "project".  Even joined the Facebook group and got on the map.  After seeing very little progress in what looks like just a giant mapped out "club" of people trying to turn GMRS into Amatuer Radio... I officially asked the proud leader to remove me from the map.  I see absolutely zero point to this project other than to help a YouTuber gain more subs.

Let's see how long it takes for them to get my call sign off of that map.

I came. I saw. I gave it a shot.  What did I find?  That it's exactly what my first impression of this post was.  Good luck Longhaulers.  I'm out.

P.S. Joe... if you want to talk to Randy so bad, you didn't need to start a cult.  Just jump on this forum and talk about number 2 pencils...

Sound FX are extremely frowned upon in Part 95

1. Most hams aren't Sad. 2. Most Hams don't look down on Gmrs, in fact Many hams hold Gmrs licenses as well, myself included. 3. Hams aren't Easily impressed, unless it's New technology we can use.
