Question

I just purchased a Kenwood TK-880 off of Ebay and a programming cable (BlueMax49ers FTDI USB Serial Cable).  I installed KPG-60D for windows and I get an error when I attempt to communicate with the radio.  I choose "Program" then "Read from Radio", and get error "Check radio type.  Retry or Cancel".  I verified the COM port.  The radio shows "Program", but the software isn't getting past this message.  On other forums I read that software KPG-49D is used for this radio.  I downloaded the program but it won't install on my Windows 7 PC.  Any assistance would be appreciated.  Thank you.

You do in fact need the KPG-49D software. Im not sure why it wont install on windows 7. Perhaps you have a bad install file? I have it installed on windows 10, but the 880 series came in service in the early 2000's so it shouldn't be a problem for Windows 7. I would recommend you fine another install file (If you purchased the software contact the seller to get a new file, if you used hamfiles, re-download the file and ensure you have version 4.0)

Yup, KPG-49D for the 880-1.  I loaded it into my Windows 7 laptop with no issues.  Maybe 968's  suggestions will help. Mine was from Hamflies.  There's a spot to select V2.0 on Hamflies, I think that's what I used.  I'm not sure we're allowed to post links to software here so I've refrained.

The only issue I ran into was when it asked for S/N.  I thought it was radio S/N and that did not work. It needs the S/N that's in the software files.

Good luck.
