Midland MXT400 1st gen vs 2nd gen

Hello,

I am having a problem getting my MXT400 to RX when using CTSS. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue? I have seen on this site people have been having problems with gen 1 radios. How do you tell which generation I have? I purchased directly from Midland at the beginning of 12/2019. TIA

The easiest way to ID a gen 1, without calling Midland, is the mic. If it seems like an odd gloss black with a loop instead of a button, and it was new in a sealed box, it's a gen 1.

 

For some reason they used poor quality plastic for the gen 1 microphone. When they did the gen 2 updates, they used better materials for the case of the mic and switched to a button hanger instead of the loop.

Sure wish we could get more options for mobile gmrs radios.

It's slim pickins for new, Part 95 hardware.  There is a bunch of grandfathered hardware out there, though.
