BIllKat Posted May 23, 2021 Report Posted May 23, 2021 I am new to the radio world (specifically GRMS) and would like to know where one goes to shop (retail offline). I have browsed many online places but as a newbie, I find it difficult to determine what sets of things I need to put together. I am sure all I need is there and when I am more experienced that's where I'll go but for now it is very confusing. My thinking is that having a knowledgeable sales person in a electronics or 'radio only' store may be what I need to guide me through the maze of products and questions. At least to get me started on my way. Any retail store suggestions? Quote
kidphc Posted May 23, 2021 Report Posted May 23, 2021 Mostly going to be ham stores. Best bet hro, ham radio outlet. It's a franchise so chances a location close by. Keep in mind many hams are GMRS and cb user.We are constantly trying to convert others into amateur radio. BIllKat Posted May 23, 2021 Author Report Posted May 23, 2021 I got my GRMS license, bought a radio and figured I would learn as much as I can at this level. I am 77 so am slower on the uptake than I used to be but love learning new things. This year I set my sights on learning about 'communications' in general and decided to dive head first into GRMS.....and here I am. As far as taking the test, that will be down the road a bit. Quote

The way they bounce around, they make me feel old and I am only 47.I am going to recommend you find a local ham club. They will help, at a store they are alot of times trying to sell you stuff. Worst with a ham club you can pay some dues make a bunch of friends without ever taking the test. You are going to want to regardless.Hope you have fun where ever you take this hobby.
