Problems Hitting a Repeater

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I added a repeater on my Wouxun KG-905G but am not hearing anything when I do the repeater check. The Rx is 462.6000 so I added RPT-17. I then added the three digit DCS tone, which was the same for Rx and Tx. DCS appears on the screen so it appears to be set. The repeater is online and has a 40 mile radius, which is definitely in range. Does anyone have any ideas of anything else I should try?

Thanks in advance for your help.

How do you know it has a 40 miles range. If your going by the website be leary of range. Its not normally accurate. I would drive closer to the repeater and test.

Yes, the detailed description of the repeater mentioned it had a 40 mile range. We'll drive closer to it like you suggested, thanks.

Here two tools I use to see I'm in range.  Also verify the tone codes... most repeater I use do not use DCS codes.

https://www.scadacore.com/tools/rf-path/rf-line-of-sight/  My choice...

Thanks for sharing the tools, I'll check them out. I had to get permission to use this particular repeater and the owner of it provided the DCS code via email.

What repeater is it?  Are you sure it's transmitting a PL tone (vs just needing a tone to access the repeater)?

I had to get permission to use it and the owner emailed a dpl for RX and TX. The repeater is in Indy.
