What is the recommended build for GMRS Repeater when using two handhelds as Rx and Tx units?

I have two handheld that will not be used as individually transceivers and thought it will be unique to use them as the basis for a GMRS repeater. I know how to set up channels for repeaters on handhelds. but, how would I go about building the repeater and what should i expect?

repeaterbuilder should give you some help. You will probably need a duplexer, power amp and supply for most basic installs. Plan on adding an auto id device and an interface circuit to handle the receive to transmit audio.

I tried this....and ultimately after looking around it was cheaper, easier and got better performance to wait for a RT97 to go on sale and buy it. They will jump around in price from $250 to $350.

I did this as well, tried cheap baofengs with a duplex on it and It worked, but was limited in range. Then decided to try with kenwood mobiles and a duplex and that worked a lot better.  The kenwoods are still a backup, but I do have a  gr300 as well, just never put it in service due to getting my hands on a vertex 7000u.  Putting the 7000u on line was nice and am pleased with its range and ease of function.  But, what really made a difference for me and my location was the 8db comscope dipole antenna.
