austinpa Posted February 12, 2022 Report Posted February 12, 2022 Hello has anyone successfully installed just the faceplate of the Wouxun 1000g overhead in a Jeep Wrangler, with the main body installed elsewhere ? I haven’t been able to find a mount that will support just the faceplate. Seems as if every mount wants to install the entire radio overhead. Quote
0 OffRoaderX Posted February 13, 2022 Report Posted February 13, 2022 Yup! Just sheet-metal screwed it right into the freedom top - but that wont work if you like taking your top off. Tossed the chassis under the passenger seat. Quote
0 serrasalmus Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 i did mine this way. the radio head is mounted to the plastic with what i call plumbers strap or tape, then i used a few small bolts and drilled thru the plastic to mount the head. the radio is attached to the factory amp in the knee area. if u put it here u have to divert the floor heater vent so it doesn't blow on the radio, here its get s below zero so i just dont use floor heat unless i'm just warming up the jeep. I'm going to make a mic cable and run it down to the middle of the am/fm radio area somewhere so i dont have the mic cable like it is. can't decide if i want to-do the pass or driver side and i think i'm just going to try to find a cat5e wall mount end or something to make it look good Quote

Do you think the radio faceplate would stay with the use of some locktight (commercial Velcro?) or a suction cup? Wondering if I need to really screw through the plastic what bracket did you use for the radio head/ faceplate ? Quote
0 austinpa Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 Like this , but suctioned to the plastic overhead ? https://www.anyradios.com/product/mobile-radio-wouxun-kg-uv920p-920r-uv950p-kg-uv980p-bracket/ Quote
0 serrasalmus Posted February 21, 2022 Report Posted February 21, 2022 i wouldnt trust that to hold the head from falling off the way we bounce around some times, plus when it get super cold here they tend to fall off the window or anything else. what i used is what i call plumbers tape or metal strap, have no clue what its really called. googled it and ace was in the shoping results here is a link to ace hardware. https://www.acehardware.com/departments/plumbing/parts-and-repair/pipe-hangers-and-straps/4208674?x429=true&gclid=CjwKCAiA6seQBhAfEiwAvPqu1xO0m00cqcHL57G-BF6stdXiW8RY2zIqmIcmuK9hEBYKfRrijJ1bgBoCCpIQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Quote
