R-TONE Repeater Tone
-  Used to activate those repeaters requiring a specific audible tone to be transmitted for access.
-  Sending tone requires first pressing the PTT, then pressing the [F] key.

This is not to be confused with a sub-audible CTCSS or DCS code.

Thanks for op asking this question and thanks for this clarification Sshannon, I was also wondering about this and went looking for info about it.  I recently and successfully programmed in a local repeater I’m fortunate is only 4.6 miles from my home and hadn’t yet wrapped my head around the difference between these repeater tones and the CTCSS or DCS codes.  I’m new to the GMRS world and really appreciate the community here sharing their knowledge.
