GMRS Pro and programming local repeaters

Hey all! 

Still very new and trying to learn the ropes of amateur radio as a whole. I recently picked up the GMRS-PRO and have been trying to program and it and get it up and running.

I have permission to use a local repeater and have programmed the channel into the radio as 462.550 on both Rx/Tx. Then I set the Rx/Tx subtones to CTCSS 88.5 for both. 

However, I don’t think my Tx is going through and hitting the repeater. I’m not getting a “krrchk” after keying on on that repeater. However, if I select the preprogrammed REPT15 on the radio, it sets Rx to 462.550 and Tx to 467.550. I do get a krrchk when I key the radio then (with or without the CTCSS tones programmed). 

Which is right? What am I doing wrong, cause I know I’m 100% doing something wrong.

Interesting dilemma: Try programming 88.5 into Transmit ONLY and leave Receive open to anything and try again.

UPDATE: Oh, I see one problem now: if you program Transmit as 462.550 you are transmitting on SIMPLEX only.

REPT15 is the correct channel and maybe they have it "opened" up right now to not need a tone, but program the tone into Transmit for now anyway and leave it off Receive.

Is there any Morse Code ID? if so record it and post it here, too.

Yes, the repeater listens on a 5 MHz higher frequency than it transmits.  The setting for REPT15 is correct. If you don’t transmit on 467.550 there’s no chance the repeater will hear your transmissions  

Set your output tone to 88.5 Hz, but for now leave your receive tone blank.  That way you’ll receive everything transmitted on 462.550

Alright, so I’ve been going about this all wrong. 

Rx is 462.550

Tx is 467.550

Rx CTCSS OFF

Tx CTCSS 88.5

Giving that a shot!

That’s right!

once it’s working like that you can decide whether you want to put a tone on receive.  

With the tone left blank you will hear everything transmitted on that frequency.  

With the receive tone set to 88.5 you’ll only hear transmissions that are sent using a tone of 88.5.

i always leave receive tones blank until I’m sure.
