I just noticed nodes... How does one get one? What is the process?

A better place to ask (or even read) is in the forum dedicated to GMRS networks.  I haven’t done the process, so I can’t honestly answer your question but people who have have described.

A person who has a repeater can link it to a network of other repeaters.  Once it’s linked it’s a node on the network.

A better question is if they will ever get the linked repeater package back in stock or even just the SD cards

If the PI is ever reasonably priced I'm sure they will. I thought last year he offered a downloadable image for your own gear ?

I bought two last week. A pi 3 a+ for $25 from Adafruit and a Pi Zero W in a starter kit from PiShop.us. 
I posted about the availability.

Nice!  I just bookmarked both of those sites.  Sometimes I forget there are other places to shop besides Amazon.

thank you for the usefull information and no links to anything. i looked and cant find the "forum" you speak of. this website is listing nodes and allows you to listen to the node. there should be an easy answer to how to join with my repeater. GMRSLIVE is a no fuss option with helpful people to get you going but it is not connected to this network. just sayin.....
