WRXS600 Posted June 28, 2023 Report Posted June 28, 2023 Retired Network Security Analyst. Was a ham when I was a teenager. Got my GMRS license in June 2023. I'm interested in collaborating to establish a GMRS repeater for the City of Pittsburgh.
WRPP728 Posted July 2, 2023 Report Posted July 2, 2023 Hello WRXS600, Welcome to the SWPA GMRS Club. This board is not very user friendly with notifying me of posts or of my being able to communicate with all of the members at once, other than by posting on the message board. I live in the Washington, PA area and have been looking at geographical maps to try to determine the best place(s) to place repeaters. I welcome any and all ideas when it comes to setting up a repeater system. I am a retired Information Technology Generalist with a Master's in Information Security and a Ph.D. in Information Technology, so I love talking IT stuff. Thank you. Nevin
SONOGUY Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 Newbie to GMRS and currently studying for my Ham license. I'm retired and learning at a retired pace. I'm mainly interested in being able to use GMRS while hiking and traveling in the SW PA region. I listen more than I speak, so I'll read more than I post. Looking forward to learning from the greater minds here. Thanks. SteveShannon 1
WSBA241 Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 Good morning. I'm also new to radio and currently studying for the HAM tech license. My first blush with GMRS in Southwest PA is that I may have to build my own repeater to make a go of this as repeater owners don't seem to respond for requests for permission. I'd like to expand my use out a bit further than my own hometown and really like the family use aspect of GMRS, but in my limited knowledge, it seems that you have to have (large) repeater access given our hilly terrain - or be willing to build your own. Thanks and look forward to talking to all of you. WRUU653 and SteveShannon 2
ShawnMopar0109 Posted March 5 Report Posted March 5 Hey everyone, Shawn here. New to the radio world. Got my Gmrs license back in 2021. Just heard about this site. Why is there not a repeater in Washington, PA?? I would think that there would be a few.
WSBA241 Posted March 11 Report Posted March 11 Hi Shawn - nice to meet you. I'm in the Burgettstown/Hickory area and I'm wondering the same thing. There's a big repeater in Pittsburgh that has a good reach, but the operator isn't responsive which kind of leaves us searching for a solution. I think Nevin (owner of this club) lives in Washington too, so maybe we can put our heads together and figure out a solution for all of these hills and trees! Take care and talk soon..
WRPP728 Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 Hi Shawn, The subject was brought up a couple of times but has not come to fruition. Myself and other members were willing to contribute a couple grand each, however communication on this site is difficult. Members are not alerted to new posts (reason my replying is do tardy) and as the creator of the club I am not able to send a message en masse to stay in touch with everyone. you have to come to the site and read the posts I make via the tabs and then reply Unless I am missing something, I can only message 10 members at a time and we are nearing 75. Nevin
