dcs Correct way to enter DCS/CSTSS codes.

Hello all. New here and learning every day.

I have a question about how to correctly enter, in my case, repeater DCS codes, but in general how to translate the codes from sites like myGMRS.com. If I want to add a repeater and the TX/RX Tone is listed as 205 DPL. Do I understand correctly, according to the chart below, that is the same thing as a DCS code (34 or D205N). Do I enter the tone as 34 or D205N or does it matter?

Likewise for CTCSS codes. If a code is listed as 173.8 PL. If I am correct that's the same thing as CTCSS code 32 or 173.8?

FYI, I have a Wouxun KG-Q10G and  Baofeng GMRS-9.

PL, CTC, CTCSS, are all the same.
DP, DCS, DTC are all the same.

USUALLY a DP/DTC/DCS tone is "N" (Normal) unless specified as "I" (Inverted)

In your example D205N = 34 on your chart.  If your radio only allows you to enter the 2 or 3 digit numbers (34) then that is what you enter on the radio.  MOST radios like the KG-Q10G allow you to choose the actual CTC/DCS tone (ie; 141.3 or D023N) - you dont "enter" it, you choose it from the list in the DCS TX or RX menu setting.

DPL is just another name for DCS or even DTCSS. 
 

PL is just another name for CTCSS.

Not all radios use the same numeric designation for either DCS or CTCSS, so you’ll have to look at the manual for your specific radio. For some radios you choose a numeric designation; for others you actually choose the code. 
 

Same for CTCSS; for some you choose a numeric designation and for others you select the actual frequency from a list. 
 

Yes, in the list you included 32 denotes DCS 205N. (There’s also inverted codes which would be like 205i). I don’t know how either of your radios require them to be entered, but the menu probably only allows one way or the other.  Just try it.

I know this is a zombie post, but I need to know how to toggle an HT from "I" suffix to "N" suffix in the DCS codes for my Baofeng GM15PRO. 

 

The numbers are in a list where you can select the one you want, but these radios are all "I" suffixes eg: D105I, although that may not be a true value --- just for approximation.

Are you sure you have gone through the entire list? 

And, are you in VFO mode? IIRC you have to be in VFO mode.

Most radios just give either a number, like D1051 which is the same as N, or the Inverse D1051I.

You won’t see a D1051N.

Perhaps I misspoke --- the radio (mine) is the Baofeng GM-15PRO. I have 4, actually, and they all talk very well with each other on CTCSS or DCS. I also run a repeater and they can work the repeater too. This is not the problem. 

When I try to talk with a buddy - simplex with digital codes/DCS over a range that I have talked with no CTCSS or DCS - 8 miles no problem. 

My radio allows me to directly go to a scroll-up/down with a long stack of alpha-numeric titles. 

The DCS I've chosen for mine is D754I (that's an "I", not a one (1). 

My buddy's TIDRADIOs - (no model available at the mo') - only have as his digital values, things that all end in "N" and he can see: D754N. 

They will not talk together although I can hit his squelch as noted by the green light on top of his radio, but the screen never lights up as it would with any other communication going on and he cannot hear me at all - even if he holds his squelch gate open. 

 

I hope I made this clear as I am very confused right now.

N stands for Normal. I stands for Inverted. 
Or there’s a separate choice that asks Normal or Inverted.
None of them provide privacy (security).

As I was waiting for your response, I went -a-scrolling through all the settings for DCS and around-and-around it went and got to D754I again (3 times) --- it always ran through nothing but the suffix "I".

 

I think I'll fire up Chirp and see what it allows me to do on my end.

OK --- I see the suffix options in Chirp, but without it, trying to program the HTs on the keyboard --- nope; all you get is "N"s. 

Sooooooooooooooooo .... I'll try to understand what I just learned.
