Yugo
Whats up with this repeater, I asked for access from verdugo (same owner) now asked for this one and I never get a response its been months.... I see from the comments people are on it so they got access... Whats the deal why cant I get the owner to accept me? Anyone know him, is he just MIA? WSAH999
Considering the comments on it from this month are from people asking about what's up with the repeater, and the comments that are a month+ old talk about the repeater working, my guess is he might have taken it down, or made it private. It happens. Well within his right as the repeater owner. However have you tried the website they have listed in the description? arn
WSAH999
https://socalgmrs.org/ Looks like that's where you request access. Also in looking at the repeater owners profile, he hasn't logged on in 16 days (honestly fairly common for a lot of repeater owners in my area. It took me like a month to get accepted once. Just depends on how often they check mygmrs as opposed to their own website database. The owner might also get notified when you request access via their website. Worth a shot. Yugo
I did the website same time I did it here... been MONTHS. no response. People got added AFTER my requests so im sure he has seen it. Maybe the guy has a grudge against me? I dont know the man never met him before. Maybe he knows me from my posts on other website forums and doesnt like my politics pure speculation) I really have no idea. I thought maybe someone here knows the guy personally and could shed some light.
WSAH999
Unfortunately that user doesn't seem to have ever posted to this forum. Is there any other form of contact to reach him? Some repeater owners in my area also usually have a phone number somewhere. Also I'm not at all going to tell you to do this, but there are ways on certain radios to detect CTCSS tones of a repeater that it's hearing. Only other thing I can suggest is finding a way to test that it is still there. With the FCCs more recent... interest in GMRS repeater linking a lot of GMRS repeaters went down, not only off the network but just off in general. Again I don't ever advise or recommend using a repeater that requires permission, however if you've tried all options. One last thing: ask people on other repeaters, it seems like you can view who's authorized on their repeaters on their website, perhaps if you run into another operator who has access, maybe they have more information. I don't personally think this guy has any vendetta against you, especially given that he has never even posted on this forum. Yugo

San Fernando Valley: 462.700 repeaters are not very helpful. Try the 462.650 repeater up on Sylmar; you should hit it fine from Reseda and it gets good range and generally have good folk. Sylmar 650; open and permission not needed. Once and a while the scum that used to populate 725 migrate over to 650 and its best to turn off your radio at that point. WRYS709
I don't have any experience programming the ICOM IC-2720. I do see that RT Software has a cable/software package for that radio and they receive very high marks on the ease of use of their software. Also, I see that CHIRP supports your Icom, as well. Good luck! You do not hear any traffic on the 650 repeater on your correctly programmed UV5R?

Exactly: I paid $22 six years ago for a good quality FTDI USB to K-1 cable on Amazon to program originally my UV-5R and it has paid dividends in working with all my K-1 radios since then! Yugo
so I got the cable and the manual doesnt tell me anything on how to plug it in or where, nor does it list what software to use. I guess I can use chirp but dont know the process. heres the manual https://www.icomjapan.com/api/download.php?post_id=2781&fl=JTJGdXBsb2FkcyUyRnN1cHBvcnQlMkZtYW51YWwlMkZJQy0yNzIwSC5wZGY=

Whenever I hear him on his home repeater, I go there and tell him he is not allowed to be transmitting that stuff on "this repeater" and he gets obstinate and stays there longer! Yugo
im not letting some yahoos keep me away from radios anyway Im into radios for emergency coms not to talk to idiots like that so as annoying as it is it doesnt bother me too much. Im working on the HAM license a little more normal people on ham bands at least what it seams like when I listen in on those repeaters. There are a few 2m repeaters in Southern CA that used to be a real mess. I don't get down there very often so I don't know what it is like now.
