WRED292 Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 How can you trace a GMRS callsign being used on a repeater when it is not either located in MyGMRS or the FCC license database? It seems to be coming from a repeater because when the repeater IDs itself, it uses the call sign WINU693. I can't find this repeater listed in MyGMRS or the FCC License Database. When I key up and put out my call sign, I break the repeater squelch. I have heard people speaking on it and it seems to be from near the Alabama/Florida line. I request a signal check but never get a reply, so I don't know if I have my tone(s) set correctly or not, but again, can't find this repeater listed anywhere. Suggestions as why a repeater would be on the air but no call sign listed anywhere? Quote

nokones Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 The license call sign stated starts with "WI". Some time in the late 90s or early 2000s, the FCC stopped issuing a mobile class license that started with a "K" and started issuing GMRS licenses with the "W". I believe the first "W" GMRS license began with "P". I don't think the stated license call sign is a GMRS license call sign. Quote

Could be a bogus call sign, but the repeater has a, or what seems to be a machine generated female voice that clearly states the callsign as I listed. Listening to the operators, I can tell they are talking about areas in Mobile Alabama, about 45 miles from me. And as said, I am hitting the repeater from Pensacola. My GMRS antenna is up about 40 feet and don't have a clue the location of their antenna. Quote
MarkInTampa Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 My guess is that you are picking up the WRXU693 repeater in Pace (Wallace) FL area, around 20 miles from you if it's on 462.650MHz. It's part of a linked GMRS network with 7 repeaters mostly in the Mobile area near the AL/FL line and is also running on the GMRS Live and Roadkill network. See this post for a bit more info: Quote

Suggestions as why a repeater would be on the air but no call sign listed anywhere? 47 CFR 97.1751 c (1) (2) states: (c) Any GMRS repeater station is not required to transmit station identification if: (1) It retransmits only communications from GMRS stations operating under authority of the individual license under which it operates; and, (2) The GMRS stations whose communications are retransmitted are properly identified in accordance with this section. If the above is met, repeater does not need to ID gortex2 and SteveShannon 2 Quote
