Stale repeaters

What determines a "stale" repeater on this site?

I have noticed several repeaters in my area are not shown in the map view even though they are online. Only thing I can see is they come up on the stale repeater list when doing an advanced search. I am guessing they move to a stale repeater list some time after more than a year of not being updated on this site?

That’s right, after no updates for a period of time a repeater is marked as stale. It doesn’t mean the repeater doesn’t exist.

Thanks and I guess my point was several repeaters have been previously shown on the map but recently I have noticed them missing from the map but still in the search of repeaters near me. I suspect the owners just need to get in there and update their information.

How did you “find” them?

You can hear them listening to an open repeater (or even simplex) channel, on 15 thru 22. Then it's a matter of how good your radio's tone scanner is, and if they talk enough for it to figure out what the right tone is.

Or you may have a local club w/ that info posted somewhere. As an example, there's a *bunch* of repeaters in Northern Utah that aren't on myGMRS, but they're all listed on the local group's FB page.
