WSAW335 Posted May 31 Report Share Posted May 31 Greetings, New to GMRS and am trying to access repeater Atlantic City 675. I have entered the frequency 462.675 MHz, channel number 28. I have the tones (in and out) set at 141.3 Hz. Two tones are available ( 141.3 Hz & 146.2 Hz) I have tried them both. Owner say repeater is an "open repeater". Still can't seem to connect. What kind of radio? Are you outside where your signal isn't trapped in a building or a vehicle? Are there buildings, trees or other obstructions blocking you from the repeater? GreggInFL Posted May 31 Report Share Posted May 31 You need to transmit to the repeater on 467.675. Setting your radio to 462.675 allows you to receive from the repeater. For clarity, on the UV-5R-family, you need to set a +5.00 Mhz offset. amaff Posted May 31 Report Share Posted May 31 I'm guessing you mean for that channel on the radio. In that case, it SHOULD work. There's always a chance the repeater is offline for some reason. In which case, it wouldn't matter what you put in the radio. Can you hear traffic on 675? And do you still hear that traffic with the tone enabled? (IE: repeater channel 20 and simplex channel 20 are the same receive frequency, so on an open (no tones) channel, you can potentially hear simplex traffic even if you're on a 'repeater' channel) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

What happens after you push the PTT button? Does the light go green and you hear a hissing sound? If so you are connecting to the repeater. Repeaters must identify periodically. Others are not obligated to respond to your transmission, so the only thing you may get back is that hissing sound -- especially if you are the only one on the channel. Next time try something like, "WSAW335, radio check please." If anyone is listening there is a good chance they will respond. BTW, pushing PTT without saying anything is called "kerchunking"* and is considered bad form.
