Question

Posted

I have a relative who is a total moron, and after getting 6 antennas either stolen or damaged, is trying to get me to believe that by connecting one wire of antenna to negative battery terminal and solder the other to the frame of my car that I'll have a huge antenna that goes unnoticed.

I told them that I find that impossible. There'd be no way to adjust it plus a chance of frying your radio. This clown claims to be an electrician, but asks for help on simplest task.

It's stupid not because it would hurt anything, but because it wouldn't do much. The battery negative is already connected to the frame. It wouldn't fry the radio (it's just...ground). But also, there ain't but 1 wire in the antenna. Does he mean connect the core to the battery negative, and the shielding to the chassis (...which is also connected to battery negative?)

You might be correct in your assessment. Or maybe he's a mad genius 😂😂

Sucks about the antennas.  One of the many many reasons I moved from the city.

No. Not for gmrs 460mhz.  Actually some what possible in a way with some other bands but not 460.  I have seen many antennas made from coat hangers and copper pipe and what not.

I used to make ground planes by using a SO239 and metal coat hangers - cut to 1/4 wave length and soldered to the center and four holes.

Let him try it first on his car and using his radio. 🫣

Remember on Signs when that kid was listening to the aliens through the baby monitor? Just saying. 🤣
