How do I verbalize my call sign?

Total newb here.  just go the TID-H3 for GMRS usage.

Okay, tried to search this but no luck.  I'm sure it covered but....

Are there set words to say my sign? If so which "system" is typically used? or can I just make up?

ie. military? I think there are other "official" ones.

it will mostly be family (wife, same license) can/should we say it differently? Male vs female would be obvious.

Something like Whiskey Sour Double Volume 362? or use an established "system"?

Also, How do I initiate a call to the family radio?

Thanks for any help, Thanks

Just say the letters and numbers as if you were spelling in a spelling bee.  There’s no “official” protocol.  If you decide to speak phonetically my opinion (worth nothing) is that you should use the NATO phonetics. They are designed not to be easily confused.  For instance, in your example you use the words sour and double, both of which can be easily confused with other words flower and bubble on a poor connection. The NATO words would be Delta and Sierra and there are no other words in the NATO alphabet that sound similar enough to be confused.

But it’s entirely up to you.

Dubya Ess Dee Vee... they're glorified FRS radios, no need to be fancy with it

Push the button and say "Hey Steve, you there?"

Yup. Doesn’t matter at all.  I just say the letters and numbers.   Some repeaters have different rules.

as for family… just use names.   The fcc doesn’t care as long as you say the call sign in some way every 15m and at the end.

You can use whatever you like to help someone understand your callsign. I typically only use phonetics if someone doesn't understand, however we usually refer to each other by name, handle, or callsign suffix "789". You can use NATO such as "Whiskey Romeo Victor Yankee 7 8 9" or some people use what the Sheriff's office here uses "William Robert Victor Young 7 8 9". I find that GMRS is pretty casual, so it's not likely anyone is going to try and get up in your face for not using NATO phonetics.
