Socalgmrs
This again? There is a big long thread on it. The bottom line is very very few people monitor any channel while on the road. A bunch of people will jump on and say they do but I’ve been coast to coast and reached out very often and never heard any one just randomly monitoring. Best bet is to scan but most families and what not will have tones set so they won’t hear you. You can try the travel tone but again most gmrs users are not looking to talk to strangers in the highway. Over2U
Guest Hungry hunter
Thanks. I guess I will just hit the scan button
GreggInFL
If you have a dual band radio you can set one to 19 and scan the other. There may be an army of operators out there monitoring 19, but no one transmitting. Feel free to push the button. Socalgmrs
nokones
If I am traveling/towing to a racing event or to/from a Trail by myself, I scan GMRS channels 1-7 & 15-22 with the Travel Tone on encode only, CSQ on receive. When I am going to a run, in a group and on the trail, I will only be the group GMRS channel and tone, and on the CB, I will monitor channel 16 AM.
